K'sedel

K'sedel

K'sedel waited. These things were never easy, but the weyrling needed to
realize that actions had consequences. And that the first consequence was
what would likely be from her point, an uncomfortable interview.

Elleanna took a deep breath and reached up to knock on the
Weyrleader's door. She'd gotten word, through her dragon, that he'd
wanted to see her and she knew why. Of course she knew why.

"Come!" K'sede'ls tone was even, yet there was a hint of something there;
something that should perhaps be a warning.

She hesitated a moment before opening the door. She'd already been
yelled at so much over this, and she just knew, -knew- she was about
to be yelled at again. But, she deserved it, she reminded herself.
She'd been stupid and wrong and intentions didn't mean anything in the
face of what could have been. So, she squared her shoulders and opened
the door, stepping into K'sedel's office.

"Weyrling Elleanna, reporting as requested, Weyrleader." Being
particularly formal couldn't hurt in this situation, she decided.

K'sedel merely nodded. He could have invited her to sit, but didn't. This
was not a courtesy call after all. "Tell me, why are you here?"

Hoping her voice would stay steady, Elleanna replied, "Because of the
stunt Seaoth and I pulled during flight training today, sir." She took
careful pains to keep her tone level, to not let the end finish like a
question. There was, after all, no doubt in her mind that this was why
she was here.

"And that was dangerous because?" He needed to know she understood just
exactly what it was she had put at risk, otherwise she could become a
liability in the wings later on.

"Seaoth could have been hurt, if she hadn't been able to pull out of
the dive." Her voice broke slightly as she added, "She could have
died."

"And more than likely you would have been killed also, or seriously hurt.
Did that cross your mind at all?"

She blinked, surprised. She actually hadn't really focused on that.
The risk to her dragon seemed such a greater crime. Of course, if she
were killed, her dragon would be lost as well, so she supposed she
understood the concern. "Um, I suppose so, sir."

"You've seen what happens should we lose a dragon or rider in fall?"

"Yes." Her reply was quiet, almost a whisper. She'd certainly heard
the awful keening of the dragons and the incredible sadness her own
green felt when one of their own was lost. An involuntary shiver ran
down her spine thinking of it.

"And the dragons could have keened for you; you know that?"

"Because if I died, Seaoth would have too. I know, sir." Her voice
broke a bit on her dragon's name.

"While the death of any rider and dragon is a tragedy, that of a weyrling
pair is doubly so," K'sedel told her. "Consider yourself lucky that you and
Seaoth have a second chance."

"Yes, Weyrleader." She did understand that she'd gotten off easily in
the greater scheme of things - considering how horribly things could
have gone if Seaoth hadn't been such a strong flier. And she did
understand the need for punishment and so on. But she was feeling a
bit too miserable to really appreciate her 'luck'. She tried not to
let that show, however. She had a feeling it would not go over very
well.

"Now, get out of here. I expect to hear only good things about you two, and
if I see you in here again like this, expect an immediate transfer, if you
ever graduate."

"Yes, sir." She hurried out of the Weyrleader's office, releasing a
breath she felt like she'd been holding the entire time. He hadn't
yelled, not once. But it was almost worse what he'd done. She reached
up and wiped away a few stray tears that had, thankfully, waited until
she was in the corridor to fall.

}:Come and wash me now,:{ Seaoth demanded, though her tone was gentle.
}:It will make you feel better.:{

**On my way,** she gave a wet sounding laugh. She really was lucky.
