Notes: Part 2/2

"Do you have a daughter of your own?" Mytan asked the Choral Master as he
passed him a plate full of goodies his wife had made for the
occasion. "I believe my uncle said you did have children
from your previous marriage."

"Yes, two daughters. Both are married and have children already,"
Eilomar replied. There were no reason to go into his suspicions about
Aileyan's
paternity.

Tellis watched the harper fill his plate and wondered if the snacks were
enough or would they run out.

Merlish sighed inwardly. She had hoped that the Master would make a good
impression on her family. He would, after all, be part of it soon, if all
went well. Perhaps that was something they could work on one day.

Mytan didn't even notice the food he was piling onto his plate. He didn't
care if the man was the size of a dragon as long as he could make his
little girl happy. "My wife and I are certainly looking forward to having
grandchildren of our own."

"Well, that is something to wait for," Eilomar said vaguely, trying to
hide his inner insecurity. Could he still sire children?

"Hopefully not too long," her father reiterated with a smile. He was
wondering if it was possible as well.

"Please, Papa, we are not even married yet," Merlish said with a rather
uncomfortable blush.

"Yes, let's not rush ahead. Oh, I did bring gift for you and your
family," Eilomar said. "Would someone bring over my bag, the brown one,
please?"

Merlish looked at Mylis and nodded towards the bag. Rolling his eyes, for
he thought it really should be Listel's job since he was younger, he did
as the Hallmaster asked.

"Thank you, lad," Eilomar said and actually tousled the boy's hair.

Mylis gave his sister a disgusted glare as he walked past her. Her future
husband had just treated him like a ten turn old, which smarted his pride.
He was a man of eighteen, after all!

Merlish ignored him as she leaned forward expectantly.

Eilomar gave out his gifts: Scarfs for Merlish and her mother, sweets and
small toy-musical instruments for the boys and book for Merlish's father.
He was grateful for Tantral's tips.

Unfortunately the boys were much older than their uncle Tantral had
remembered and they took the offered toys while overly sweet smiles
covered the true feelings of insult the older boys felt in receiving such
childish gifts.

Mytan's appreciation was genuine, however, as he opened the book and
admired the illustrations. "Freshly printed," he smiled, noting the
printing date and that it had not of the musty smell a book that had been
waiting in store rooms for months might have. "Thank you most kindly."

"Yes, thank you," Tellis said too, feeling the fine fabric of the scarf
under her hand. She would be wearing it only at Gather's and other fine
occasions.

"You're welcome," the master harper beamed.

Merlish sighed her relief inwardly. Aside from her brothers, things were
going well, it seemed. Her parents looked happy, and she so
desperately wanted them to be happy. She wanted to be the one to make
them happy, and if marrying the Master Harper was what would bring joy and
comfort to them, she was determined that was what she'd do.
