"B'lamick." Briata called out softly and accompanied it with a light rap upon his door. "It's Briata." She glanced down at the box tucked under her arm. It wasn't very big. The gift wasn't anything particularly special either, but she hoped he liked it. It would be useful if nothing else. If she'd had more time, she would have made something better, but she hadn't even found out about his birthday until recently, and her classes left her with little time.
"Hold on!" B'lamick called. He opened the door after several moments, his body dripping wet, his body covered only by a towel wrapped around his waist. "Hey, what's up, come on in."
"I..." Whatever Briata was about to say escaped her. There was B'lamick in all his glory, half naked. The towel was the only thing keeping him halfway decent and even that gave her a peek at his hips...more than Briata really thought she had a right to see. His chest was bare too and she couldn't help but notice what a very nice chest it was. She stared at that chest, his dark skin dusted with darker hair that curled against him. It was a very nice chest.
Briata's cheeks grew pink and she pulled her gaze away from the young man. "Perhaps I should wait until you are decent. I'm sorry, I didn't realise I had come at a bad time."
"No, come in!" B'lamick realized belately that he should have spared the few extra moments to pull on some pants. The towel had been handy though, and normally, that would have been enough. "I was just in the bath. I'll grab some clothes and change real quick. Don't leave."
"O...okay." Briata did her best to keep her eyes _off_ of B'lamick. He was rather nice to look at...but that didn't mean she _should_! She cleared her throat and forced her gaze to traverse around his weyr and hoped that he would hurry and get some clothes on. Her face felt hot and she forced her hand to stay down so she didn't look like an idiot fanning herself.
B'lamick grabbed a fairly clean shirt and pants off the floor by his bed and left Briata in the main part of the weyr while he changed in his bathing room. He was out moments later, using the towel to dry out the little water left in his hair. "Better?" He teased.
Briata risked a glance over at the man and relaxed into a smile when she saw him fully clothed. "Yes, thank you. Next time I shall ask your lifemate whether it is safe to come before I do so."
"Briata, you're always welcome." B'lamick chuckled. "Maybe a heads up that you're on your way might be a good idea though so I can be out of the bath ahead of time."
"And dressed." Briata pointed out. Out of the bath was one thing. Out of the bath and dressed, quite another. They had been on the subject long enough, so Briata changed it by taking the small box from the crook of her arm and held it out. Jewel who had been silently perched upon her shoulder, tail wrapped around Briata's neck, playfully bit at the ribbon that tied it, though she purposefully missed. "This is for you. I'm sorry it's late."
"What is it?" He asked with interest, dropping the towel on his bed and taking the box from her.
"A birthday gift. I'm sorry it's late - you never told me." Briata wished she had - then maybe she could have done something nicer for him. "It's not much, but I hope you like it."
B'lamick opened the box, the single ribbon easily sliding off, and peered inside to see several pairs of socks; brown, purple, green. He remembered all the socks he had asked her to mend for him and he grinned. "Ahh, how'd you know it was just what I needed?"
"I think you brought me quite a few pairs once." Briata's face slid into a smile. "And I thought maybe you could use some colour in your socks." She had chosen pretty shades, rich tones that were lovely to look at but still masculine.
And they were colorful. "Well you didn't need to, but thank you, they're great." He stepped to her and embraced her with his free hand, even sneaking a quick kiss on the cheek. It was a friendly gesture after all.
"You're very welcome. I would have done something more, but I didn't find out about your birthday until it had already passed." Briata didn't pull away or blush at the embrace. Hugs and pecks on the cheek, those were given in her family all the time. It was...strangely welcome from the young bronzerider. "And the only reason I found out was you mentioned something some of your dragonrider friends did. But now that I know, I'll be better prepared next turn."
"Well when is your birthingday? I need to know ahead of time so I can learn a useful skill with which to make your gift." B'lamick didn't want to miss it, he'd be a horrible friend if he didn't get her something in return."
Briata laughed and shook her head. "I don't need anything. I wanted to do this. You've already been a wonderful friend and I couldn't bear to think I didn't do _some_thing for you." Her smile brightened a bit and her eyes glinted with mischievousness. "But if you must know, it's the twenty-eighth day of the ninth month."
B'lamick stepped over to his table which doubled for his desk and found a empty spot to jot down the date. "I won't forget now. Say, I've got a few errands to run before dinner, want to come with?"
"Sure, I'm done for the day." Briata did have some work she needed to do, but it wouldn't take long, she would have time after dinner. "Just want some company?"
"Everything is better with company, isn't it?" He replied with a grin, picking out the bright blue socks from the box and slipping them onto his feet before sliding into his boots. He tucked his shirt in, checking to make sure that he looked presentable, then ushered her towards his door.
"I think I could mostly agree with that statement." Briata allowed him to lead her. Jewel lifted her head and lazily flicked her tail at the bronzerider. "As long as I'm not going to be in the way."
"Never."
