Briata

Briata

Briata watched as people began to get up and dance. The harpers were providing some lovely entertainment, so she could understand why they wanted to get on their feet and move around. The music was bright, cheerful and held a good beat. She even tapped her foot to it. She winced as she realized the last time she had danced had been at her wedding. Her foot stopped in the keeping of time and Briata sighed softly to herself. She needed to move on, and part of that was not letting the memory cloud her joy at life.

"You are far too beautiful to be stuck in the back here all by yourself." Labarr purred as he came up next to Briata. He'd never seen her in the Weyr before, and that was enough for him to want to approach her. "Would you care to partner me in this dance?"

Briata lifted her gaze to meet that of the young man who approached her. She took note of his knots - woodcrafter. She smiled and nodded. She wanted to dance and it would be nice to turn her thoughts away from her troubles, even if only for a few moments. "Yes, thank you." She stood and motioned to the area where the other dancers congregated.

"I'm Labarr, are you new here?" he asked as they wove their way around the tables and chairs to the floor.

"Yes, fairly." Briata took up position for the dance and allowed Labarr to lead as was proper. "What about you?"

"Been here all my life." He said with a grin, then didn't have much more time for words as he twirled her out and they moved with the fast beat.

Two similarly swift songs later, Labarr noticed the girl was flushed which of course only added to her beauty. "Would you like a drink?"

"A drink would be nice." Briata concurred and allowed him to escort her off of the floor. Vigorous movement had made her parched and she would welcome something to wet her throat. "You dance well."

Labarr knew he did. He'd been dancing since he could walk and took advantage of his skill whenever possible. "So do you. You know, I didn't catch your name before..."

"Briata." She picked up two glasses of juice and handed one to Labarr before taking a sip of her own. She let her gaze drift away from him, back to the dancers that still moved about the area that had been cleared.

The runaway Lady Holder. Very nice. "Well Briata, since we are so well matched as partners, shall we enjoy a few more dances together? I do know more than the simple toss dances." he assured her.

"Gladly." Dancing was enjoyable and with a well stepped partner like Labarr, even more so. Briata took a last sip of her juice, then took the woodcrafter's hand. "Lead on."

Nearly an hour later, Labarr was ready for the night to take another direction. He'd had his fun on the floor, and Briata's tight curvy body had teased him to the edge of a cliff. As the harpers took a break and everyone started wandering to their little corners, Labarr led Briata off the floor. His hand caressed her side teasingly as he pulled her closer so as to whisper in her ear. "Would you care to accompany me to my quarters? I've some wine there and we could get to know each other better."

He had to go and ruin the entire evening. Briata had been having a lot of fun, but she had never intended to do any such things. She put on a small smile and pulled away from the young man's caress. "I don't think so, however I do thank you for the kind invitation." It was the Weyr, but that didn't mean she had to cast off all her beliefs, and casual sex was not something she believed in.

Labarr deflated instantly though he didn't let the smile leave his face. It wouldn't be the first time he'd been refused, but he always had to try. "It's an open invitation, Briata, if you ever change your mind. And if not, I'd always enjoy a dance with you. You have been a most competitive partner this evening."

"I'm afraid it's an invitation that will never be accepted, Labarr." Briata's tone was gentle in its admonishment. "But I'm always willing to accept a dance or few."

She must be with the bronzerider, T'vanen. She'd come to the Weyr because of him hadn't she. Well, he was a lucky man. "Then let's do a few more rounds before the evenings done, I've some frustration to work off."
