Description: T'vanen takes Briata on a tour of the Weyr and they run into B'lamick.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 7 of Turn 5
"What's down that hallway?" Briata motioned toward the section as they
approached it. People were passing back and forth, weaving around them
as they were going slower than the flow of traffic. It was one more way
she could go and get lost. If Briata were outside, she could ask
dragons for help regarding directions - but they weren't outside and she
was simply going to learn how to find her way around. It was one of
many things she was going to have to get used to.
"We're practically on top of the dining cavern, but a level up. With a
couple of sets of stairs here most people come up right away and then
walk through these corridors if they are heading for something on this
level." T'vanen reached for the sketch he had made Briata of the main
corridors. "We're here, you see."
"Ah." Briata was going to have to refer to the sketched out map for to
ever remember where to go for what. "Did you say there were some
crafter's areas on this level?"
"_Some_," he admitted cautiously, "But many are over the river." He
realised his failings and added: "It's not on your map but it's pretty
obvious. Go outside, face the river, find a bridge."
"What is on this level?" Were there more quarters? Or were other uses
found for this? Garnet Valley was tiny in comparison to the Weyr and
Briata feared she would get lost for turns if she went the wrong way.
"Weyrs, most importantly, all along the cliff face. And yes,
accommodation for non-riders. We have lots more people than we have
dragonriders, of course, which is very different from the way it used to
be when I was young."
"Briata." B'lamick said in surprise as he laid eyes on the girl.
Gossip had traveled to his wing, so he'd made the connection that the
crying girl he'd helped in the storage room was the same as the missing
new Lady Warder. "T'vanen, don't tell me _you're_ the evil dragonrider
that stole her away from her hold?" he added with a rueful grin when he
recognized the man with her.
"Hello, B'lamick." B'lamick was afforded a small smile of greeting by
the former Lady Warder and a glance given to T'vanen at the question
B'lamick posed.
"I'm not evil!" T'vanen protested, particularly stung at the 'stealing'
comment from the younger bronzerider. He might have to put up with it
from his elders but from _B'lamick_ it was a bit much. "How do you know
each other?" he asked, his usual good humour absent from his tone.
"B'lamick was the bronzerider who helped me move those things to my
quarters." Briata explained. She sincerely hoped that B'lamick
wouldn't reveal that he had found her sobbing like a child who had
received a spanking.
"Oh. I could have done that, if you'd asked," T'vanen said to Briata,
though he keep a wary eye on the younger man.
"I know." That had been Briata's original plan. "I was going to pick
some things out then have you help me with them when you were free, but
then he offered to help."
B'lamick gave a half bow and winked at Briata playfully if for no other
reason that to see T'vanen's reaction. "Nothing like being in the right
place at the right time. We made a whole afternoon out of it, it was fun."
"Well, perhaps you'd like to come along with us now, then?" T'vanen
suggested, making a deliberate effort not to get sulky at the thought
that Briata had made another friend at the Weyr. Wasn't that what
should be happening? But the reality was that he hadn't been as upset
when she had told him she was marrying Garnet Valley Hold's Lord Warder.
B'lamick chuckled, "Well, it all depends on where you two are going."
"I'm showing Briata around, trying to help her get her bearings."
"Nothing specific, in other words." Briata's mind was still whirling
with all the places she had been in the Weyr. How did people find their
ways around?
"Nah, you two go ahead. I wouldn't want to crowd the cooridors."
B'lamick stepped past the two to continue on his way. "But we'll have
to have dinner soon Briata. And you just let me know if you need
anything else out of storage."
T'vanen made a face at the other man over Briata's head but bit his
tongue. If Briata wanted to be friends with the youngster then he
wasn't going to stop her.
"Certainly, dinner sounds lovely." Briata agreed, then turned to
T'vanen. "Why don't we go ahead and continue our tour. I don't think
we have seen even half of this place."
"We'd have to walk for thousands of dragonlengths to see it all,"
T'vanen agreed. "See you later, B'lamick."
