N'vanik marched up to the infirmary. Not one, but _two_ of his wingriders out from injury, and it sounded like one of them had caused it. He asked the first healer he saw and he directed him to the rider's cots, side by side. Some of his anger faded when he saw their bandaged bodies. Shards, this was not what they needed. Zelle especially. She was such a capable rider.
"Oh, Weyrleader." The healer said, surprised as he walked in on unexpected body next to the two patients. "Are these two yours then?"
"Yes. What happened?" He hadn't gotten a clear story yet.
He gave a little helpless shrug, "Not sure really. All I heard was that the girl's green." and he pointed to Zelle, "hit a cliff wall, and that lad there," pointing to M'net this time, "him and his blue caught them. Wreckless fellow was near crushed."
It was a little hard to imagine Zelle making such a mistake. M'net had been the one struggling at drills. Just what had happened? "How bad is it?"
"Well with him, he's got broken ribs and collarbone. But I'm more worried about this fever he's developed." the healer replied with a frown as he looked from first the sleeping bluerider to the greenrider. "She's been moving around a bit more though, fighting the fellis we've been giving her. She has some internal worries, swelling in the abdomen mostly, but she also has plenty of external damage as well, especially the arm and head. The lad will pull though fine if the fever doesn't take him. As for the lass..."
"Shards ..." N'vanik rubbed a hand against his face.
The healer took a deep breath, he'd seen worse, and they'd survived. "The important thing right now is positive encouragement. She can hear you right now probably, fidgeting as she is. You awake Zelle? You've a visitor."
K'hetah? J'darin? Zelle's eyes peeled open and fell across the form. No, it was neither of them. "Hello Weyrleader." She stated softly. The fellis was wearing off. Or maybe it was just in the beginnings of taking effect. It was hard to tell, time kept blurring together.
"Hey, Zelle." N'vanik moved a little closer. "How are you?" Well, that was a sharding stupid question!
"I've been better." Zelle's lips tugged upward on one side in a half hearted attempt to smile. "Might need a couple of days off, though."
"I suppose I can give you a few," he said gently. "But I need you back, so you better heal up."
"I'll be back." Zelle had no plans to do otherwise. It was hard to think and concentrate, and she didn't want to think about how long it really was going to take her to recover, but she knew that she was going to be back in the fighting wings. She wasn't going to have it any other way.
"That's what I want to hear." He smiled.
The healer put a hand on the Weyrleader's arm to get his attention. "Sir, it'd be best to keep the visit short, she needs rest to heal faster."
He glanced at the healer. "Yeah. Okay." He turned back to Zelle. "Rest up, Zelle." The look he gave her was tender. They weren't close, far from it, but she was his wingrider.
"Yes sir." Zelle wasn't about to argue with that bit of logic.
