Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 10 of Turn 5
B'vin stared at the door to the Weyrleader's office and gave it a sharp knock. He'd stood there before, with J'darin, asking the same thing he was here for now. This time he just hoped the answer would be different.
"Come in!" N'vanik called, hoping it wasn't someone he didn't want to see.
"Evening Weyrleader," B'vin said in greeting once he'd closed the door behind him. He'd talked with the Weyrleader a few times when he'd come down to check on the weyrlings and had seemed easygoing enough. One never knew though with bronzeriders. "Can I have a word with you?"
"Sure." It took him a few moments to recall the name. B'vin, yeah that was it."What's on your mind?"
B'vin handed the bronzerider the report the healers had given him that cleared him for full duty after his Threadfall injury. "I'd like to request transfer into a fighting wing."
N'vanik glanced over the report. "Great! You'll have to ease into it. If I remember right, you weren't in the Wings long."
B'vin just stared at the Weyrleader for a moment. J'darin had shot him down so many times, even though he'd hoped N'vanik would be different, he'd still expected to be made to stay with the Weyrlingstaff. "Um, yeah, but I've been drilling with the weyrlings so I haven't forgotten anything."
"Probably not. I'll have you observe for a day, then you'll join drills. We'll see how you do before you're cleared for Fall. Now ..." He looked down at his desk. "where to put you?"
**Anywhere but the queen's wing.** B'vin was pretty sure that was just as much punishment as being left with the weyrlings.
N'vanik looked at a few different hides for a moment. "I'm gonna put you in Cyclone. They're a little short on greenriders."
It could have been worse. At least K'hetah was a competent Wingleader. Of course D'ren was in that wing. They hadn't done more than exchange polite nods in passing since B'vin's flight, but that wasn't out of the ordinary, the two never did talk unless D'cal was with them. "That sounds fine. Thank you."
N'vanik dug in a drawer for formation hides and handed them to B'vin. "These are the new formations. Spend some time getting familiar with them." He quickly wrote out a wing assignment and handed that over, too. "Try to find K'hetah and speak with him today. You'll report to drills tomorrow. Welcome back to the fighting wings." He gave the greenrider a half smile.
B'vin took the hides, though he thought he'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't something he'd already seen since they senior weyrlings were always drilled on the most up to date formations. "Thank you sir." he replied before turning to leave. Under his breath he added "It's about time."
