K'ran

K'ran

K'ran had heard a tip from one of his wingmates that there were some very, very nice new throws in. Since Dolphin Cove was warm year-round, he didn't want one for sleeping under- but he did have a rather nice wooden chair that would look fantastic with a throw to make it look homey. And perhaps a rug to go with it? But he couldn't seem to find them in this box. With a sigh and an audible "Shardit!", he moved onto the next box.

"Such language!" A teasing voice echoed back as Zelle stepped into the storage room. She glanced around at the jumble of boxes that had been pulled out and pushed to the side as, evidently, the other dragonrider had been searching in vain for..well, obviously, for something. "It's a good thing there aren't any sensitive Aunties about."

"They'd be terribly angry at me." K'ran admitted. "How are you, Zelle?" He was fairly sure that was her name. New wingrider, had been seen about with J'darin and with K'hetah, too.

"Doing well, thank you. Just looking for a new chair. Mine's on its last legs." Zelle leaned over to peer into a box. "What are you looking for?"

"Rugs or throws. I actually happened to acquire an _excellent_ chair from Amber Hills recently. My brother Corran is a guard there, and you know the woodcraft hall moved there after the earthquake?" he asked. "Well, they had a few surpluses they're selling off low. But wood is a little bare, it needs something to make it inviting."

"Well, I was kind of thinking about finding something I didn't have to buy." Zelle mused, though maybe a brand new chair would be nice. "I'm guess by this pile of boxes that you haven't had much luck."

He shook his head. "I heard from J'rin that they were in this room though." he said. The bluerider loved decorating even more than K'ran did, and generally didn't make fun of him for enjoying it, either. "And he's usually right about this stuff."

"Did you try those up there?" Zelle pointed to a couple of boxes stacked upon a high shelf. She wouldn't be able to come close to reaching them without a ladder of some sort. Surely there was one in the room somewhere.

"Not yet." K'ran admitted. "Too high up." After all, he was even shorter than Zelle. He turned around before spying a ladder in the corner. Picking it up, he carried it back and started clambering. "And if they _did_ leave the rugs there, I say it makes no sense." he muttered as he started back down with the first box.

"No, it doesn't really." Zelle agreed readily. She had moved to spot K'ran as he made his way upward, but stepped out of his way as K'ran came back to the ground. "Anything?"

K'ran looked and spotted something in a light purple. "This," he said, holding it up, "but it's not the color I'm looking for. Still, at least it's a throw."

"What colour are you looking for?" Zelle reached out to finger the throw. To be honest, she liked the colour. If K'ran didn't take it, she might.

"Green, preferably dark." he said, setting the throw gently aside and reaching into the box. "Liiiike...this." It was a large throw, light but soft, in a vivid emerald with a light golden border.

"Oh that is pretty!" Of course, the lavender one was pretty but not quite as striking as the green. "Very nice. Will it do?"

"Definitely." K'ran said. It actually matched his eyes, and he wondered if he took it to a tailor if he could get a tunic to match too. "Want to look through here or should I go put it back?"

"I'll take the lavender one." Zelle reached out and plucked it from where it had been placed back into the box. "I don't really _need_ it but it's pretty."

"You can find the best things here." he agreed.

"Sometimes." Zelle leaned over and peered into one of the discarded boxes, then wrinkled her nose at the contents. "And then sometimes you just find junk. I mean, really, who would want some of this stuff?"

"I have no idea." K'ran shrugged. "But I'm sure someone likes it somewhere."

"Then why is it still here?" Zelle was tempted to simply take the whole box and toss it out, but that would probably not go over well with whomever it was who kept up with the storage rooms.

"The Headwoman doesn't want to throw away usful items even if they're ugly, I guess."

"I suppose." Really, Zelle was rather doubtful how those could be useful. Still, maybe someone would want them - someone with bad taste. "Happen to see any decent chairs while you were rummaging about in here?"

"I think chairs are in the storeroom across the hall, but I could be wrong. I'd be happy to go with you if you like, help you carry it back to your weyr if you find something."

"I can carry it." Zelle assured him. She was quite strong, not that most chairs were usually that heavy - unless they were particularly ornate. "But thanks for the offer."

K'ran hefted the box and carried it back up to the top shelf. When he descended, he asked "Want company, at least?" He hadn't really talked to Zelle before, and it was fairly easy. He didn't feel as tongue-tied around her as he did with other women.

"Sure." Zelle hung the throw over her arm and motioned for K'ran to follow. "The storage across the hall, eh? Let's see what they've got."

K'ran paced after her, hoping he'd been right about the room. Sure enough, the room held several different kinds of furniture, for those who needed any replacement items. He eyed a small table covetously for a moment before deciding that his weyr couldn't really hold it and he already had a small place to write. "Furniture Central it is."

"You're absolutely right. Now...to find a chair in decent condition that doesn't look like a feline's been using it for a scratching post." Zelle wove her way through several items, a dress, a couple of small tables, even a chair or two that, after a quick glance at she decided she didn't care for the colour. "Something in a dark wood, though I'll take a lighter wood if I can't find anything in my preferred colour."

"There's a smaller one over there." K'ran said with a point at a little dark brown one. "Don't know if you want one that little."

"That's a little _too_ small." Zelle tapped the chair then shifted it to the side so she could pass it. "Oh, what about that one over there? A bit fancier than I would have picked, but it is pretty." The greenrider pointed to a high backed chair carved from a rich, red wood. The tops of the back and the arms curled over into scrolls and the feet flared at the bottom. Fancy, yes, but pretty.

"Oh, that's gorgeous." K'ran agreed. "A display piece as well as a chair."

"Yes." Zelle agreed as she reached out to stroke the wood. "And the colour is just gorgeous. I think I'll take this one, even if it is fancier than anything else I've got."

"Looks like we both got what we needed."

"Yes, and a bit of a bonus too." Zelle motioned to the throw. "So...if you want to be gentlemanly I suppose I can let you carry this for me."

"Happy to be of service, ma'am." the bronzerider joked. He never got asked to reach things in high places, so he made up for it by offering to carry things whenever he could.

"I'll carry your throw for you." Zelle offered, holding her hand out. "It will be less awkward that way."

"All right." he said, handing it over.

Zelle placed the green throw over her purple one, then moved to the door to hold it open for the bronzerider. "Careful now, don't strain yourself."

"I won't," he promised as he lifted it and headed for the door. It was heavy, but turns of carrying firestone made it easy enough to bear once it was settled. "Now just direct me to your weyr and we're good."

"Ah, see, that's going to be the fun part." Zelle laughed, "My weyr is only accessible by dragon. However, I came prepared. I've got ropes so we can lash it on to Rillith."

"Oh, you have one of the really nice weyrs." K'ran said. "All right, then, let's get this to Rillith."

"Good. And afterwards, care to share some klah?" The greenrider offered, leading the way through the hallway.

"I'd like that." K'ran told her, following after Zelle.
