Description: Loseth joins the chase in Nyith's Flight.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr, Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 11, day 22 of Turn 4
Loseth's emotions slammed into him with such force that he staggered.
}:She rises!:{ There was no question who he meant. N'vanik raced to his weyr and grabbed his riding straps. }:No time!:{ Loseth grumbled, pacing on his ledge.
**If we're going all the way to Dolphin Cove, yes there is. You want me to fall off?** This was it. Fear washed over him, drowning out Loseth's emotions. This was his last chance to back out and avoid the embarrassment of losing. He cold stay here, tell Trae he'd changed his mind ...
}:NO!:{ Loseth roared. }:We are going!:{ Shoving his fear down, N'vanik hurried out to the ledge and tossed the straps over Loseth's head. He got the straps on in near record time and they were off.
Fear gripped N'vanik again as they came out over Dolphin Cove. The Bowl was full of bronzes dropping off riders before joining those already on the heights. And there was Nyith, gleaming in the sun as she tore open a herdbeast.
Loseth boldly trumpeted his intent to the entire Weyr, declaring that Nyith was _his_ and no other would claim her. As they made a fast -- almost too fast -- descent, N'vanik spotted Trae on the ground near the feeding pens, focused on her dragon. He felt a surge of lust and Loseth echoed it with a growl. They landed and N'vanik made quick work of the straps. Loseth vaulted for the heights and N'vanik made his way toward the group of men forming around Trae. He kept his pace steady, not wanting to draw attention to himself. He was still a dozen feet away when Nyith took to the skies. He tilted his head up to watch the golden Queen.
He could almost feel wings as Loseth took off after her. N'vanik turned back to Trae and crossed the last few feet. As he pushed his way into the circle of riders, he wondered what he was going to do to burn off the flightlust. He couldn't just take anybody, he needed a woman that could handle his anger and violence. And it was sure to be even worse this time when he watched someone else take possession of Trae.
}:N'VANIK!:{ The roar nearly split his head. }:STOP!:{ He cringed in guilt as much as pain. He was doing it again, hampering Loseth with his doubts. He took a breath and pushed his mind outwards, joining Loseth in the sky. **Catch her!**
Loseth swept his large wings, moving past some of the slower males but not pushing himself. Nyith would lead them on a long chase and he needed to save his energy.
With most of his mind flying on dragon wings, N'vanik only caught flashes of what was happening on the ground. Traelyn's face, once taunting, and again, snarling. He held that image, the challenge in her eyes, even as Loseth dodged another bronze to move closer to Nyith.
N'vanik didn't think of this as a goldflight anymore, or a Senior Queen's Flight. No, this was Trae's Flight, Nyith's Flight. They were all that mattered, that soaring gold, that snarling rider. For the first time in turns, N'vanik's fear of losing dropped away, as far as the ground was from Loseth's strong wings. Rider and dragon were of one mind, one goal: Catch her!
Loseth, whipped around, as fast as his large body would allow as Nyith made another turn, diving nearly into the pack of dragons following her. Another bronze dropped out of the chase, and another. They were weak. They were nothing. He knew his own superiority, as the Queen knew hers. This was a dance between them, and none of the others mattered.
Now in the lead, he had a clear view of the prize before him. Nyith rivaled the sun, fierce and gleaming. A true Queen, ruler of the skies, the very air seemed to bow to her whim. Then she shifted, straight into his path. Loseth rushed forward, twining his neck with hers and claiming his first gold.
}:MINE!:{ His roar was torn away by the wind as they plunged toward the earth.
