Characters: M'van, Treya
Description: M'van and Treya come to an understanding
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 3 of Turn 4

"Hi M'van, is this seat taken?" Treya stood, plates in hand, trying to balance her mug of fresh juice while she looked for somewhere to sit.
The normally bubbly and flirtatious blond, was more subdued than people were used to, and she had had not a few querying looks as she made her way through the tables, looking for somewhere quieter to sit.

"Treya," the bluerider grinned as he looked up at her. "Sure, sit down if you want."

The welcoming smile from M'van lifted her spirits - briefly. She hooked a leg around the chair and pulled it out, setting the plates and mug on the table, and finally slid into the seat. She didn't look around the hall, not willing to be snubbed, whether intentionally or not. She quietly nibbled at a hunk of bread, lost in thought - barely aware of M'van beside her.

}:Talk to him - you _need_ to talk to someone - anyone:{ Cenith's voice echoed in her head.

}:Kiloth, _please_ get your rider to make her talk:{ the green tried a different tack.

**Don't do that!** Treya was appalled at her dragons actions. **I don't need or want to talk. I'm quite content to eat in peace, instead of make small talk.**

But it was too late, the blue had already repeated Cenith's words to his rider.

"How've you been?" began M'van. It was a start to a conversation at least, she could shrug it off, or respond as she chose.

"You really don't have to, M'van..." she turned and looked up at him, realising the dragons had beaten her to it. She also realised she _needed_ and _wanted_ to talk to someone, but couldn't explain her feelings, even if she really tried. It felt as though someone had snuffed out a glowbasket that she desperately needed in her life.

"I just thought you might appreciate your company, after all your Cenith does seem to be chatting to Kiloth," he pointed out. Not that he was great company anyway. While he had thought his relationship with Kitali was solid, it had seemed that cracks were forming. Not being a rider herself, or weyrbred, she couldn't appreciate all the time just how and why he and Kiloth were so intertwined, and that had caused problems.
Eventually, and with much heartache for both of them, she had accepted a position elsewhere, at least temporarily to give them both some space.

"Cenith is becoming very sociable lately." Treya's face creased into a small frown as she looked down at her plate. "She's fed up with me moping, I guess." she glanced up, "You really don't want to listen to this, do you?" she hadn't meant for the question to contain a note of hope, but even to her own ears it was detectable. She glanced around the cavern, "Where's Kit?" she asked, realising suddenly that his 'mate wasn't in her normal place, beside him.

"Not here," he said. "She, she got a chance of a position back North with her husband's family." It was no secret she had arrived at River Bluff a widow, "She thought she should take it, give his parents a chance to see their grandson as he grows up."

"Oh." Treya wasn't sure if she should pry further, but natural curiosity got the better of her, "So she just - left? How did you feel?" It wasn't quite the same as her situation, but may be he would understand how she felt, after all.

"Would you believe me if I said a little relieved?" he said pouring himself a drink from the jug on the table. "We'd had a few arguments over the last month or so." He looked down into his drink a moment, "It wasn't good for any of us, not in the least the children."

"So you feel it was for the best?" she asked. Maybe it was different, especially since there were children involved. "Are you staying in touch?" It must be the season, she thought to herself.

"I think it's for the best right now, as for staying in touch..." He shrugged. "I don't know, we'll see what happens. She might send her flit here, she might not."

"How long has it been?" He seemed to be handling the whole thing a lot better than she had. Maybe it was different for men, may be not. She laid a hand on his arm, "If you don't want to talk, just tell me to butt out."

"No," he said looking at his companion, "It's fine. She's been gone about a month now, and well it isn't easy, but it's getting better."

"I'm sorry M'van, I guess I've been so lost in my own misery... Cenith was right, I need to get out and become part of the Weyr again - not just a part of drills but an actual member of the Weyr." she shook her head, "I can't believe I hadn't noticed Kitali was no longer here."

"What happened?" he asked changing the subject away from Kitali.

"Happened?" she shook her head, "Nothing happened." she said in all innocence, her brows lifting, her eyes wide as she looked from him to the room at large. "Absolutely nothing happened, which is why I don't understand why I am alone, now." She shrugged, and looked back down at her plate. "I...just.don't.know."

"One of those things?" asked the bluerider. "We all get times like that."

"But I was so sure." she said passionately. "One day everything is fine, the next he asked me to move back to my own weyr, that he needed,"
she paused, then almost spat out the word, "_space_." She looked up again, her watery eyes meeting M'van's, "Why can't I find someone who will love me, not just need me to satisfy themselves?" she hastily swiped at her eyes, not allowing the tears to fall.

"Sometimes people are like that," he sympathised. After all, that sounded very similar to what Kitali had said to him. "It's a poor excuse."

"And so many out there use it. At first it was termed 'flight lust' but after the flights, what excuse is used then?" She rolled her eyes, and slowly wiped her eyes again, "I'm sorry M'van, I wasn't pleasant company today, and I really didn't intend on ruining your meal." she shook her head sorrowfully.

"No, you haven't. Too much alone time is no good for anyone."

"That could be very true. Too much alone time, and then a sympathetic ear bring you to this - meltdown." she gave a half-hearted laugh. "I am sorry, really." she looked him in the eye and smiled softly.

He met her gaze and held it for a moment, feeling a sense of understanding. "You know, this is a start for both of us, getting out and talking again. There's nothing to be sorry about, nothing at all."

"You're someone really special M'van. If I wasn't feeling so wretched right now, I might even make a play for you." she laughed softly, reaching out and squeezing his hand in thanks.

He ignored the bit about making a play, knowing that neither of them were really feeling so inclined right now, besides friendships often worked out better. "Friends hey?" he suggested.

"Definitely." Treya agreed, things were looking just a little brighter for her now, friendship was what she needed above all else. Someone who would accept her for who she was, not who they wanted her to be.

"Good," he said with a smile, one that was far more genuine this time.
