The preparations for the storm were well underway. Procedures well planned swung into motion, as though they were everyday occurences. But a storm like this didn't happen every day.

}:Shall I call Vilarth and hers now?:{ asked Nikornath.

**Please,** was his rider's reply. **Tell her we need her.**

Lenala arrived promptly, looking harried but surprisingly firm in her new-found confidence. "You needed to see me, K'sedel?"

"I've got a job for you, and Vilarth," began the Weyrleader. "Something that Vilarth will relish."

**Throwing M'galec off the weyrledge?** she thought uncharitably, smiling when Vilarth expressed her pleasure at _that_ idea. "What do you need me to do?"

"You know about the coming storm?" Without waiting for her acknowledgement of that fact, he continued. "The weyrlings, their barracks are in danger of flooding, and as they can't fly yet.... We'll need to move them to the Hatching Caverns. That's where you and Vilarth come in."

"You need us to keep an eye on them?"

"I need you to be in there with them to keep them calm. If only one of their riders panics or gets worried, they may well all panic. If you and Vilarth are there, and stay calm, they will look to you as an example." Not to mention that any gold should me more than capable of calming the youngsters and their dragons.

The idea of Lenala keeping anyone calm was more than a little humorous, but she supposed it was a sign of trust that K'sedel was asking. With a straight face, even. "I would be happy to do that. Vilarth can keep everyone under control."

"Good." Perhaps Lenala was finally realising what riding gold meant, for her and the Weyr. This kind of thing may sound a simple task, boring even. But it was one of vital importance, the dragons we the future of Pern, and as such the young needed protecting.

"Is there anything else you need me to do?" Lenala asked, her voice even sounding a bit more confident now.

"Be there for them, they'll look up to you after this."

"All right." Lenala rose to her feet. "I'll take care of it. But if you need anything else--anything else at all--just have Nikornath bespeak Vilarth."

"He, and I know where the pair of you are."

"Good." Lenala turned towards the door and then hesitated and glanced back.
"If something goes wrong--" she started, then her cheeks flushed. "I mean, if I need help. Who should I talk to?"

"Contact Tsaera first, and if she can't help you, look for me or K'reyel."

Lenala nodded. "I understand. Thank you again, K'sedel."
