DCW: Think Of It This Way..

Writers: Bree, Dana
Date Posted: 10th June 2007

Characters: Isaline, R'alt
Description: R'alt and Isie find a way to ride out the storm
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 19 of Turn 4

Isaline didn't even bother to knock on R'alt's door. She hustled inside,
hauling her blankets and a basket of stale rolls with her. "Thanatath says
she's on your ledge already," Isaline said as she put the basket down and
tossed the quilt and furs over one of his chairs. "Thank you for letting
us stay here. I don't like storms like this."

"Neither do I, Isie." Setting his book aside--he really couldn't get into
it anyway--R'alt moved over and patted the empty spot on the sofa next to
him.

After closing the door, Isaline picked up her favorite quilt and settled
down next to him. "Thanatath says it's much nicer here with Tieranith to
help block the wind." The green had curled as far into R'alt's weyr as she
could fit, and was pressed closely up against her clutchmate.

"I knew his size had to be good for something," he grinned, curling an arm
around his bundle of greenrider and pulling her close. "You think we'd
get used to the storms since we've lived here for so long."

"And yet, we don't." It felt warm and comfortable snuggled up with R'alt,
and Isaline had to remind herself about what V'lorn had told her. **Don't
get attached. Don't risk hurting Thanatath.**

}:You are not hurting me,:{ the green replied tentatively. }:Tieranith's
rider makes you feel good. I like that.:{

**I know, I know.**

"I remember one particular rainy day, when the worst part of the storm had
passed, but it was still kind of raining and we all raced outside to
wrestle in the mud after lessons. After I knocked you down on your ass,
you knocked
_me_ down and then sat on me. My pride smarted for about a sevenday after
that."

Isaline grinned. "As well it should. You were just getting all those
muscles, but you should have known that wasn't going to make it so I
couldn't beat you up if I wanted."

"Mmmhmm. You were just _so_ determined," he winked, tweaking her braid.

"Wasn't I always, though?" She didn't know if she loved the memory of
rolling around in the mud--it certainly wasn't much good for her dignity
now! Then again, R'alt hadn't looked half bad with his clothing clinging
to all those new muscles... **No, no, no.** "You were all just mad because
a girl kept beating you. Not that you noticed I _was_ a girl half the
time!"

"If I remember correctly," he drawled, "you'd get mad at us if we tried to
treat you like a girl."

"Well, only when you treated me like a _dumb_ girl," she retorted, poking
him in the side. "Honestly, girls can do the same things boys can without
turning into boys."

His grin was wicked. "They certainly can, Isie."

"And about time you admitted it." She bared her teeth at him in something
resembling a grin. "I could still kick your butt if I wanted to."

"Not unless I kick yours first!"

The little streak of wildness that V'lorn had been slowly drawing out of
her made her grin. "I didn't think _kicking_ it was what you'd been
thinking about."

R'alt stared down at her for a moment in surprise before that lazy,
arrogant grin spread across his lips. "No," he agreed as his hand snuck
between the folds of the heavy quilt, trailing its way lightly down her
side. "Not exactly."

**Don't get attached. Just have fun.** Surely it couldn't be that
difficult. "So you're going to treat me like a girl now, are you?"

"I think I just might." His palm cupped her hip. "There can't possibly
be a better way to spend a rainy afternoon than what I've got in mind."

She titled her head back to look in his eyes, and her heart jumped. She
didn't want to just have fun. She wanted to melt into his arms and have
him
look at her as if she was the only thing he wanted.

The feelings were so powerful that she ended up pulling back, her eyes
suddenly wary. "I don't know, is it really a good idea? What if... what if
something happens? Outside, with the storm? Shouldn't we be... I don't know.
Ready?"

A dark brow rose, and he grinned at her, fingers rubbing in slow circles on
her thigh. "Do I truly believe my ears? Isie backing down from a
challenge?" Gently he began drawing her closer again, hand splaying over
her leg. "Or, dare I say it? Isie turning shy on me? _Shy_?"

"It's not a challenge," she protested, tugging back. "I'm just trying to be
_sensible_, R'alt! And I am _never_ shy!"

"Really?" he asked, keeping his hand on her leg. "You've got a charming
shade of pink flushing your cheeks, darling. How do you explain that, hmm?"

Isaline made a sound suspiciously like a whimper as his fingers crept
higher. "Fine! I'm embarrassed but I'm _not_ letting you goad me into
this!"

"But goading is part of the fun of it!" His grin was very male as his
gentle fingers finally reached their destination, watching closely as her
lashes fluttered. "You could think of it as playful seduction if it makes
you feel better."

"Oh..." Isaline closed her eyes and sank back into the couch. "This is not
fair..." And yet, she couldn't seem to care.

"Fair or not, you won't be complaining for long, Isaline," he murmured,
wrapping his other arm around her and leaning in close to kiss her.
