Description: Symion almost causes Aelin to be late for light's out.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 6, day 25 of Turn 3
He cursed Seven silently as he ran, scrambling to reach the barracks before lights out. The canine, innocent of any true wrong-doing, stopped directly in front of his master. Aelin, his attention focused on the door to the barracks just out of reach, tripped over Seven and sprawled at the feet of an older boy who was just exiting the door. He groaned inwardly as Seven ran around both boys, whining eagerly, his little tail wagging so hard that his whole body shook.
Symion raised an eyebrow as his eyes took in the apprentice sprawled in front of him. "Out for an evening jog, Aelin?"
"Ye... yes, well, no, sort of. Seven had to go out and... and... We're going to miss lights out, and I can't get into trouble again!" So far, Aelin had managed to avoid Symion - the boy had a reputation for being hard on the younger apprentices.
"Oh, come on." Symion waved his hand in the air as if this concern was foolish. "Lights out is really more of a suggestion."
"Bu..but the journeymen check every night!" Aelin didn't know what else to say. His face was flushed and he felt uncomfortably close to hysteria; he couldn't afford to get into the slightest bit of trouble.
Symion still didn't move, blocking the stairs to the barracks so that Aelin would have to run around the front of the Hall and up the stairs to get in. "If you're so worried, why didn't you walk your pet earlier?"
"I didn't know he needed to go out! He didn't start whining until I was getting ready for bed. Please," Aelin began, taking a deep breath to keep himself from shaking, "please let me pass, it'll take too long to go the other way!"
"Oh, fine." Symion moved aside and let Aelin by him, but followed him up the stairs. "I don't see why you're so excited anyway."
Aelin stammered a quick 'thank you' as he scrambled up the stairs, nearly tripping twice, with Seven yapping, running ahead of him. He was relieved; Symion didn't seem nearly as bad as some of the other apprentices had said. But then, he mused, there were always those who were jealous of those more popular than they were.
