Description: J'an and U'das make plans for the next restday
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 15 of Turn 3
The Weyrlingmaster approached his fellow bronzerider in the dining caverns.
"U'das my friend, how are you?"
"I'm fine, you? I heard you had bit of a trouble with one your weyrlings?"
U'das answered with a grin. He gestured J'an to sit down with him.
"She wanted to try out her dragon's wings before they were both ready," said
J'an simply.
"It happens from time to time. Always someone getting impatient. If you
lucky nothing happens, if you are not lucky, the dragon gets crippled for
life," U'das said seriously.
"I know, but there is always a chance of something going really wrong, and
losing the pair. This time I think they'll be lucky. The green is hurt,
but the dragonhealers seem optimistic. As for the girl, well I don't think
she'll be graduatuing anytime soon."
U'das raised an eyebrown. "I hope she learns the lesson."
"She will, I hope she will. M'galec and I have chores and assignments to set
for her that should keep her very busy, and make her think about things. I
don't think she's a bad girl deep down, it's just she seems to have come to
the Weyr, and taken a little too much advantage of the freedoms here."
"I've seen that happen with holdbreds. We're more free here than what they
are used to and that makes them think that _everything_ is allowed," U'das
said.
"Especially when they find themselves with dragons."
"Yes, impressing tends to boost your ego, and our life-mates have a way to
make us feel like we could do anything," U'das laughed.
"It happens to all of us," remarked J'an before joining the laughter.
"Enough of weyrlings. When do we go fishing again?"
"Next restday maybe? I can leave M'galec and the 'third to look after the
weyrlings for a bit."
"Sounds good to me," U'das grinned.
"Do I need to bring anything specific?"
"Lunch and something to drink with it. I'll take care of the
equipment-part."
"I'm sure I can organise that, the kitchen staff owe me a favour."
"When two charming lads like us can't wheedle out delicacies out from
kithcen lasses, it's time to retire," U'das said.
"And I hear you have an 'in' with the Headwoman as well."
"Yes, well, Sol and I go back for a long time and were getting closer
lately," U'das admitted, his smile deepening.
"Good for you my friend. You both deserve it."
"Little happiness never hurt anyone. How about you? Haven't you found
anybody special?"
"You know me, somewhere out there is the woman for me."
"I hope you find her," U'das said.
"But there's lots of fun to be had looking, as I'm sure you know."
"Oh, yes, definently," U'das laughed.
J'an laughed too. "So we'll go fishing next rest day then."
"Yes we do," U'das said with emphasis.
"That's day 21 I think, and I'll need it, because the Weyrlings go /between/
the day before."
"It is a good way to relax after a nervewrecking experience like that,"
U'das grinned.
"I'm sure they'll all make it."
"Let's hope so," the wingleader said with serious tone.
"I'm not going to lose another one this time."
"How are you going to prevent it? Someone always gets lost to /between/,"
U'das asked curiously.
"I don't think I can, other than by being very careful."
U'das nodded. What else there was to do.
"In the meantime, fancy some wine? Shame to waste the evening."
"Always," the bald bronzerider grinned.
