N'vanik

K'ran was carrying his stew plate through the dining cavern, looking for a place to sit. Rogueth was a warm presence in the back of his mind, alert and idly watching, not speaking, just there. It was relatively crowded, and there weren't too many places to sit. He hesitated by the end of one table- the man closest to him wore bronzerider knots, and K'ran was sure he'd seen him recently...

}:Loseth's rider.:{ Rogueth informed him. }:He rides in our new Wing.:{ "Pardon me," K'ran began, unsure if the man would welcome him, "but may I sit here? There's few open seats about." he explained wryly. Inwardly he steeled himself, wondering if the height thing would come up.

"Go ahead," the bronzerider replied with an indifferent shrug. The man standing next to him looked familiar, and after a moment he realized it was one of the new members of the Wing. "You're in Cyan, right?"

"As of a couple days ago, yes." K'ran answered, taking the seat. He started on his food, wondering if the other man was much of a conversationalist. "How are you and your dragon faring?"

"Not too bad." Better than last month, that was for sure. "You must be new to the Weyr, not just the wing. Only someone that didn't know better would sit next to me." A small amused smile curved N'vanik's lips.

"Infected with some plague? The curse of a watch-wher?" K'ran joked. He found himself slightly curious. "I haven't found a reason to avoid you, is there one I should know about?"

"I'm N'vanik, and if you haven't heard the news about me yet, you probably will soon." He shrugged. "But we'll leave it at that for now."

"N'vanik..." K'ran considered the name. "I've heard a bit, but I prefer not to put stock in gossip- Weyr gossip is one of the cruellest things I know." he replied. "I'd rather judge you on my own."

The other rider nodded. "That's a good attitude to have."

K'ran ate a bit more, staying silent for a bit. **He sure is quiet.** he thought, feeling a little bit suspicious. Immediately he dismissed it.
he was just being paranoid, surely. "You've been here longer than I have, is there anything I absolutely need to know about the Wing, the Weyr...I understand there have been some shakeups recently."

"As far as the Wing goes, I would suggest you not get on Kenza's bad side,"
N'vanik chuckled, choosing to overlook the comment about shakeups.

"Kenza would be...the wingthird, right?" K'ran asked. "Is she liable to eat me?" It sounded jesting but was meant seriously- K'ran had known some Guards like that, who were so tough that if you got on their bad side you'd be regretting it for Turns.

"Only if you deserve it," N'vanik said, smiling.

"I'll try my best not to." K'ran said seriously. Something about N'vanik was...interesting. Bothersome, almost- the man was a troublemaker, wasn't he. Something about the way he behaved- it set off his nerves.
But he had been chosen by a bronze, he couldn't be _all_ that bad, surely. No, not at all. "You're in good shape, even for a dragonrider."
he commented idly. "Did you craft before Impressing?"
Pre-Impression...it seemed a safe enough question. Especially if it was just about craft.

N'vanik shook his head. "No. I was Searched from a caravan."

K'ran's interest was perked. "A caravan? Did you travel much, then?" To explain his sudden enthusiasm, he explained. "I used to travel with caravans as a guard." So, he had something in common with the enigmatic bronzerider, then- they'd both been with a caravan at least once. Maybe he could find out more.

**A guard. Isn't _that_ interesting.** "Yeah. I spent about three turns wandering around. Saw a lot of the continent," N'vanik said.

K'ran smiled. N'vanik was seeming more an more interesting- guarded and self-protective, someone with many rumors around him, someone who seemed like he didn't like people. Well, K'ran could deal with that. He would try to make friends with N'vanik, he decided, simply because he was interesting. "Me too." he remarked idly. "Do you ever go exploring on restdays?" he asked.

"Not exploring so much as going somewhere nice for a while," N'vanik said. Shards, was he having an actual _conversation_?

"Sounds nice." K'ran said. "As soon as I get settled into the routine here I plan to go exploring the local area, and going back to my habit of visiting places." He paused, weighing what he knew of his wingmate.
**But he rides, and _bronze_...** "If you'd ever like to come with me, you're welcome." he suddenly offered.

N'vanik chuckled. "Thanks for the offer but . . ." he shrugged. It wasn't completely out of the question, was it? "Well, I'll think about it."

K'ran smiled, feeling like he'd accomplished something. "That would be nice." he remarked honestly. "Sometimes it can be lonely on your own.
Not that we're alone, with our dragons, but another human to see a place with is nice."

"Depends on the person," N'vanik said, thinking of one person in particular.

K'ran nodded. "That it does, I suppose." He paused. "Do you visit places with someone, then?"

"On occasion," N'vanik said lightly.

"More fun that way, isn't it?" K'ran asked genially. "Not as lonely, more to see, help finding the little nooks." He shook his head.
"Honestly, the Pass ruined travel opportunities."

N'vanik shrugged. "Makes you appreciate the time you have to relax."

K'ran nodded. "That's true." he remarked, stretching. His meal was done, and N'vanik didn't seem like he wanted company to continue too much.
"Well, N'vanik, I've enjoyed it." he said. "See you at drills." he added, standing.

"See you," N'vanik returned, giving a nod. **Shells that guy is short,**
he thought, but didn't say anything.
