Description: Tarsenuth and Eboroth meet. So do their riders.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 14 of Turn 13
Lounging on his ledge, Eboroth casually watched the comings and goings of dragons. He didn't pay too much attention to the bronze that landed in the Weyrbowl, but then he noticed the dull, sightless eye. His head lifted. }:Oh, you are like me!:{
}:I am Tarsenuth.:{ the bronze replied, with dignity, and settled neatly on the warm ground, tucking his paws beneath him as his rider dismounted. }:Who are you?:{
}:I am Eboroth,:{ the blue said, remembering his manners. }:It's a pleasure to meet you, Tarsenuth. My rider is a Wingleader, even though we are retired.:{
}:We are also retired.:{ Tarsenuth rumbled evenly. }:But I am still a strong flier.:{ The bronze added. }:Mine is G'weld.:{
}:I fly well, too. I catch many greens,:{ Eboroth said proudly. }:But I do miss fighting Thread,:{ he added in a sad tone. Then the blue rose and stretched. }:Tr'vel, come here. There's a bronze with an injured eye, like me.:{
**I'm busy, Baby Blue,** Tr'vel said mildly as he wrote another line in the report.
}:Are you here for a visit? Or on duty?:{ Eboroth asked Tarsenuth.
}:We are on duty.:{ Tarsenuth rumbled, officiously, and mantled his wings. }:Mine delivers messages.:{
He snorted at a flit that zipped by too close on his blind side, then spread his wings again, scanning for a good spot to sun while his rider was occupied.
}:Come up to the Heights with me,:{ Eboroth said. }:I know all the best spots to nap. Or we can watch the waves.:{
}:I think I should like to watch the waves.:{ Tarsenuth rumbled, and spread shining wings.
G'weld allowed his bronze to be drawn away. After he finished delivering what needed to be handed over, there was a little bit of time before they had to rush away again.
Eboroth found them a good spot overlooking the ocean and curled up in the sun next to the bronze. After a while, he nudged his rider again. }:You should meet Tarsenuth's rider. They are retired because he can't see out of one eye, like me. His rider is delivering messages.:{
Tr'vel leaned back with a small sigh. **Fine. _If_ his rider has time, and if he wishes, I'll speak with him.**
Eboroth excitedly passed the message to Tarsenuth.
}:Mine says he has a little bit of time.:{ Tarsenuth rumbled back to Eboroth, after a few moments. }:Where is Yours?:{
}:In his office.:{ Eboroth sent an image of the lower caverns tunnel entrance and another of the door to the Lightning Wingleader's office.
}:Mine is on his way.:{ Tarsenuth told Eboroth, and true to the bronze's word, G'weld knocked on the door only a few minutes later.
"... Hello?"
Tr'vel got up and opened the door. "Tarsenuth's rider, fair skies to you. I'm Tr'vel, rider of blue Eboroth. Please come in." He stepped aside and gestured toward the chair in front of his desk.
"Thank you." G'weld responded, and offered a smile. "My name's G'weld. Tars is happy to make friends with your blue."
"Eboroth is happy to meet another half-blind dragon. He's friendly, though he doesn't usually approach bronzes," Tr'vel said. "Would you like something to drink? Klah? Juice?"
"My lad's a bit vain, so having a friendly blue around is an ego boost." G'weld responded. "He won't hassle your dragon."
A pause, and then he continued. "Klah is good, if you have it."
Tr'vel went to the small table in the corner and poured a mugful from the pitcher of klah. "It might be a bit cold, but that's not such a bad thing around here," he said as he offered the mug to G'weld. "Have you been retired long?"
"Cool klah in hot weather is good." G'weld agreed and accepted the mug with a nod of thanks. "As for... being retired. Not long." He said more slowly. "Though Tarsenuth's gotten used to less field of vision more quickly than I have, it seems."
"Dragons are pretty adaptable." Moreso than their human lifemates. "My condolences on your retirement. It's a tough thing to face, especially at first."
"Thank you." G'weld told him. "We've been keeping busy enough, and-- well. You know, since your blue's similar. They're still strong and healthy, and can fly."
"That's certainly a bright side." Tr'vel smiled a little as he took his seat again. "Eboroth is certainly happy he can still catch greens."
"Tars hasn't shown any inclination yet, but he might." G'weld gave a sort of shrug, then a nod of thanks to Tr'vel for the klah. "My lad doesn't do much green chasing anyways, so we'll see."
He paused, then added, "It's true I can't be in the Fighting Wings anymore, but there's still things Tarsenuth and I can do."
"Of course." Tr'vel thought G'weld was saying that more to himself. "I've certainly kept myself busy, and I never would have been a Wingleader otherwise."
"Of course." G'weld responded in turn. "I'm no Dragonhealer, but Eboroth looks well." He added in compliment.
"He certainly thinks so," Tr'vel said with amusement. "We still do sweeps and transport, and I run simplified drills to keep the dragonpairs active."
"That makes sense." G'weld offered. "Most dragons don't prefer to do nothing. And being a Wingleader is important work, whatever Wing you lead."
Tr'vel nodded. "I take my responsibilities seriously. The Wing chose me to lead them, and I want to make sure I'm worthy of that trust."
"Of course." G'weld told him. "Your blue seems happy, my Tarsenuth says. And it's nice to meet you, of course." He added.
"A pleasure to meet you, too. Those first few months can be very hard, so if you need someone to talk to . . . " Tr'vel offered. It had been agony for him, dealing with Eboroth's pain and the fact that they would never fly Thread again, and the helplessness of knowing how desperately Dolphin Cove needed pairs in the sky after the disaster. He had felt useless, and furious at O'dan for making such a stupid mistake.
"Thank you." G'weld responded, and _meant_ it. "It's... nice to find a potential friend who understands." He added. "I've never led a Wing, but if you ever need to vent, or anything, you're welcome to reach out for the same."
Tr'vel smiled. "Thank you. I'll let you get back to your duties. Fair skies, G'weld."
