"Why are so many people against male greenriders?" F'lain asked R'alt with a sigh.
"Who, the holders?" The brown weyrling leaned back in his chair, bringing the hot mug of klah to his lips to take a careful sip.
"Some crafters too. I mean what did we do to them?" the reposnse of some newly arrived crafters had been less than friendly.
"Nothing. They're prejudiced, F'lian. It's the way they're raised. It's their 'moral code' if you will." He glanced at him. "They treatin' you badly?"
"Not outright, just looks and wispers mostly. Gramth dosen't hear them so I try to not pay attention."
R'alt nodded. "It's all you can do, really. I mean, what does it matter _what_ they think, right? It's part of Weyrlife. If they can't deal with it, that's their problem." He reached out to clap an encouraging hand lightly on the greenrider's shoulder. "I know it isn't easy--to ignore them."
"You know what bothers me the most about it? It reminds me that I can't be with C'nitak as much as I want too."
"Why not?"
"Cause of her," he nodded to Gramth's lumpy figure just outside the door, "She's not old enough to understand. I mean I know it isn't her fault and I wouldn't do anything to hurt her, but still..." He wondered if his clutchmate had anyone he was waiting on.
Ah. He meant _be_ with C'nitak... "Mmmm. I know what you mean, F'lian.
Scorching shards, I miss the sex."
Hearing it put so bluntly made F'lian laugh. "I remeber, one day when his blue lost a flight..." he trailed off not wanting to disturb either his friend or his green. "It should be intresting when she rises."
"And it'll be interesting when he catches," R'alt grinned. Then he sighed. "We have a bit to wait though."
"How long where you at the weyr before you impressed?" F'lain asked.
"All my life. And you?"
"Three turns, funny I never meet you before this hatching."
"The Weyr's a big place," the brown weyrling grinned. "And I _still_
don't know half as many girls as I'd like."
"Well maybe I can help, greenrider to greenrider sort of thing," he offered. "Or I could go around the dinning cavern talking about cute you are."
He snorted, then looked slyly thoughtful. "As long as you do it _subtly_, F'lian."
"I thought you knew? We greenrider are obviouse and blunt, we also don't care about what "decent folks" think or feel." he grinned, "I'll be nice I promise."
