Description: Rath explores while the humans are in lessons
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 1, day 12 of Turn 13
Notes: Aydhan and N'kevyn have a ground-level weyr
Rath was awake, and he was bored. Aydhara was off in lessons, listening to Viseya drone on and on about something that was obviously really boring and unimportant, because her mind had wandered off and the Weyrlingmaster Second's voice sounded like a horn warbling. She'd said something recently about being able to explore the Weyr if the dragonet was asleep or agreeable, so surely it would be fine if he explored a little. He wasn't asleep, and he was certainly agreeable.
The yard, however, was not so much. The fence was too big. He didn't think he could jump it. He hopped a little to test out his legs. He could jump, and if he flapped his wings he thought he could maybe get a little bit of extra air (he couldn't). He reared up and put his forefeet on the fence and considered it. He pushed against the posts and felt them wobble. A few more pushes and the fence topped, sending the blue and wood crashing down towards the ground with a cry.
Rath scrambled back to his feet and pretended like he did that on purpose. He looked around to see if anyone else noticed. }: Ssssh. :{ He said to the couple dragonets that had witnessed his crime. }: Don't be weenies.:{
And so he hopped away.
He had a long way to go and a lot to see, he decided. First there was that building where they abandoned him to eat. There were lots of people walking by. Some came over and asked to give him pets, which he graciously accepted. A couple even offered him treats, which he took _very_ gently. Aydhara would be so proud of him. And then there was the main road leading into the weyr, which he considered for several minutes before he followed some weyrfolk down and around to the lakeside docks. That was so much fun, too! The boats were so neat, but he was told no when he tried to get closer. He abandoned that after a few rebukes.
Finally, he found the ground weyr he was looking for. }: Hello! :{ He announced to the big bronze lump. }: I've been looking for you. Is this where we're going to live?:{
}:You will not live here!:{ Avicath’s indignation was intense and immediate. }:I already have to share!:{ It took him a moment to figure out where the tiny blue was, but once he did, he turned around to stare at him. Ah yes. The Little One’s Blue. }:You may live next door,:{ the bronze said, as if he had any say in the matter.
}: Next door? But there's no door. There's just a hole.:{ Rath said. He craned his neck back to look at the exit, then hopped even further in. He stretched bigly and shook from his nose to his toes. }: I like it here. Who else are we living with?:{
}:You’re not living here! Tymborikath already lives here! And she doesn’t share well,:{ Avicath said with no self-reflection whatsoever. }:Where is your rider? You’re supposed to be watching her. Don’t go inside, you’ll get stuck,:{ Avicath said with the wisdom of a dragon who had been stuck in a narrow spot more than once.
}: Tymborikath lives here too? Oh boy. You're right. We will be really crowded. Maybe you can sleep out by the boats.:{ Rath said amicably. }: My rider is fine, I wasn't watching her in the first place. The weyrlingmaster is watching her. Hey, how far back does our room go? What's behind that other hole in the wall?:{
}:It’s where the riders live. And there’s a closet. They argue about that a lot. I’ve never been small enough to get in there. My head gets stuck. It’s very big,:{ Avicath said proudly. He ignored the suggestion he sleep by the boats. He could drop the little blue in the lake if he had to.
}: Oh! Is there extra room in there? Is that where Aydhara will sleep?:{ Rath asked and toddled over to the door. He still wasn't all that big yet, and he was certain that he could squeeze through the door. He wanted to see where they'd live! Aydhara especially loved that closet, that's where she went the last time she wanted new shoes. He'd been too sleepy to go with her, but she showed him her goods when he woke up from his nap.
}:Aydhara can stay,:{ Avicath granted with warm affection, }:but you can’t. I won’t share my ledge. You have to get your own.:{ He debated summoning his rider, who would surely explain to the little blue why he couldn’t live here.
He did not consider the imminent risk to the interior of the weyr.
Rath got his head in just fine. His shoulders were a little harder to push through, and his hindquarters especially. He took a few careful steps further into the weyr. This didn't look like his alcove at all. Aydhara had a bed near his wallow, and a desk and a chair and a box for her clothes that he was _not_ allowed to go into anymore. This alcove had a really big table and way too many chairs. And so many things on the walls and on the weird ledges!
There was something weird on the floor that felt funny on his toes. He flexed them, feeling the strange texture. His claws caught and made a little hole. Oh. Oh no. He wiggled his paws out of the hole and smoothed it down. He kept exploring, sniffling up at all the things just within reach.
It's how a glowbasket and tunnelsnake skeleton crashed to the floor in a spray of dirt and bones.
The first crash startled Citrine awake, and the gold firelizard swooped low over Rath’s head on her way out the door, shrieking at him angrily.
}:What are you doing? You aren’t supposed to be breaking things. We like those things.:{ Avicath twisted his head to try to look into the weyr. He considered alerting his rider, but he rather thought he’d be annoyed he’d let the little blue inside. Better to try to get him to leave and pretend he’d slept through whatever happened.
Rath had just enough time to puff up indignantly at the scolding, }: I am _not_ breaking things, I'm- :{ when a shrill, furious, gold blur of wings flashed in front of Rath's face and he panicked. He shrieked-- an undignified, high pitched sound-- and he momentarily lost control of himself.
The rug under his feet took the brunt of the fear. Rath looked at the puddle and pile by his back legs and tail. He looked at the doorway. He looked around. }: Uh oh. :{
He turned to paw at the mess and rub it down into the rug in hopes that no one would notice.
**What are you doing?**
}: Nothing! :{
}:What did you do?!:{ With a great, grumbling heave, Avicath got up, though he could still barely twist his head to look through the door. }:Oh, you clean that up right now!:{ The bronze demanded, as if there were anything the baby blue could do about it. }:The firelizard is going to tattle!:{
}: I am! :{ Rath shouted. Rubbing it into the rug wasn't making it go away, though. He'd have to get rid of the evidence.
He wiggled around the mess, knocking over another chair in the process, then grabbed the edge of the rug in his teeth and started to drag it towards the weyr entrance.
Which, of course, dragged everything else resting on top of it.
**Okay. _Where_ are you? You aren't in our alcove or in the yard.**
}: Nowhere! :{
Avicath winced at the sound of crashing inside the weyr. }:You have to be careful!:{ it was more of a panicked statement than a commanding one. }:No don’t knock over the-:{ a lamp hit the floor with a crash. }:You’re going to have to explain this.:{
Citrine reappeared first, landing on top of Avicath’s head like he was a piece of furniture and resuming scolding Rath angrily.
“What is going on here? Rath! Where is your rider?” N’kevyn was out of breath when he ran up, bracing himself on Avicath’s shoulder while he stared at the mess half in, half out the door of his weyr.
Rath jumped in surprise and shrieked. He bolted back into the weyr, a resounding crash echoing from within.
N’kevyn stood there for a moment, trying to decide if he could leave and let Aydhan discover this mess instead. Avicath would only tattle, he decided.
**Avi, tell Aydhara we need her to come over as soon as her lesson is over. And tell Aydhan NOT to come home.** He could see a trembling blue rump sticking out from behind the overturned couch through the door, and he started forward. “Rath. I'm not mad.”
He didn't notice the mess on the tangled up rug until he felt the squelch under his favorite boots and smelled the familiar foul smell of dragon waste. “... I’m not VERY mad.”
