Description: Rusaeth and Zineth fight a lake
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 9, day 27 of Turn 12
Like most of those new to Barrier Lake Weyr, Rusaeth was fascinated by the lake. Too cold for much more than the quickest of baths right when he'd hatched, the spring weather got him a little more leeway to pace the less-populated shoreline by the weyrling barracks. The curiosity of the young dragons was endlessly amusing for D'narion, and he was happily perched on a rocky outcrop far enough away that he could supervise without a wave knocking him over. The waves were getting rougher as the spring air warmed, though the water itself was still icy cold.
Rusaeth edged closer to the water until the cold foam lapped against his forefeet. The shock of it made him snort, eyes whirling fast with delight. }: It's cold! :{ He declared to D’narion, stamping once, twice, sending up little sprays that clung to his dark hide. Another wave rolled in, crashing against his forelegs, and it startled him enough that the brown awkwardly tried to hop backwards in an attempt to get away.
**Very cold.** D'narion agreed with a laugh.
But Rusaeth was already scooting closer again, shoulders hunched in concentration, forelegs swiping at the waves before he turned and scuttled back up the shore. }: It is a game. :{ He decided. }: It chases me and it won't win. :{
}:Nothing can win against us.:{ Zineth stated in a rather matter of fact tone. He approached the waves like his brother, but with more of a steady caution. His nostrils flared at the sting of water in his nose and spurred a single sneeze, followed by a snort.
As he watched both dragonets brave the waves, but not to the point where they dared to step into the water, K’lin sat beside his own brother, watching them. He had no intention of braving the icy chill of the water himself, but he allowed Zineth to explore and experience it if he wished. He would only intervene if something might harm the dragonet.
He might have taken the time to work on his craft, but while they had a bit of a respite, it was not long enough to get started on a project. As soon as he readied himself, he might have a half hour before K’lin would have to stop, if that. No, he preferred to have longer stretches of time, but time was not something he had in abundance as of late.
Watching the dragonets trot forward only to dart back away from the water that licked the shores, a smile drew itself across K’lin’s face. “I am glad we Impressed together.” He stated softly before looking over at his twin. “Though had you suggested I might before the Hatching, I would have likely thought you were wrong.”
"Same." D'narion said with a grin. "I couldn't imagine doing it without you, really. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but I didn't realize how much it would be. At least we're past the food-bath-sleep cycle. We'll be flying soon."
Rusaeth shrieked and sputtered when a wave broke and he caught a bunch of water in his face and up his snout.
Don was right, it was a lot of work, but as K’lin let his dark gaze slide back over to his lifemate, he knew very well that all the work was worth it. Nothing would ever make him regret impressing. If he had truly realised what it meant, he likely wouldn’t have refused in the past, but then again, Zineth wouldn’t have been in any earlier hatchings. “You know I wouldn’t abandon you.”
Leaning forward, K’lin’s arms draped over his knees as his eyes followed the antics of the two dragons. Zineth snorted again and continued his teasing of the waves. “I’m glad. I didn’t think I wanted to Impress, but…I’m glad we did.”
They had done so much in their lives together, from even before they were born, two people with the same face. Though they were very different, one thing they shared in common was their loyalty to each other.
D'narion breathed in the cold, wet air and let it out slowly, watching Ruseath barrel toward the next wave. The little brown's hide gleamed dark and slick where the water caught him; he looked thrilled with himself, much like his own rider did.
D'narion pushed his heel against the rock beneath him, grounding himself. "I know." He said, glancing sidelong at his brother. "I didn't think you would. Abandon me, that is. But you could've stayed at the crafthall. Or we could have Impressed in different clutches. Or just kept working in the forge here."
Rusaeth suddenly chuffed, shook his head wildly, and then burned his face towards D'narion-- eyes whirling a bright, merry green. }: The water lost. :{ he declared triumphantly.
D'narion laughed. "Sure it did, buddy."
