“Oy Kaedin, I could use a hand here.” Cirina was juggling an armload of ribbons and a box of other assorted decorations as she entered the common area of the candidate barracks. Pausing, she looked him over head to foot, then foot to head, “Actually you’re tall. I could use your reach, too. You busy for the next little while?” She’d been talking about the party she was planning for the past sevenday, and the evening had finally arrived. Judging by the arm load of supplies, the red haired candidate had not done any pre-decorating or prepping. “Unless you’re busy getting ready to celebrate our last night of freedom? Give or take.”

There was no way to know exactly when the eggs would hatch, but the common opinion was that it would be ‘soon’. The tension in the candidate barracks had been growing over the past sevenday, fueling Cirina’s insistence that they needed a party before they were all stuck on weyrling restrictions for the next several months. Unspoken was the fact that of course not all of them would be able to Impress and this would be the last time they would all be together as peers.

Almost instinctively Kaedin grabbed a few of the things from Cirina before she lost balance of them all. He had heard whispers of the party, not that he was particularly interested. After so many times Standing he was reluctant to get to close to any candidate, but he had somewhat of a rapport with Cirina; they had Stood together a number of times.

"I have a little time to help you out, but thats about it" he informed her as he fell in step beside her.

“Of course,” Cirina said cheerfully, letting him take some of the load from her.

It wasn’t surprising that it was Aeoluth waiting to give them a lift up to the location of the party- it was common knowledge among the candidates that Cirina and the brownrider were close after she’d helped tutor him and even helped take care of the brown when O’rosin had been injured during the hatching. It was a quick hop up to the seaside weyr, where Cirina put Kaedin to work hanging streamers and banners. "So, what plans do you have this evening that are more fun than my party? Come on, it's good to let a little steam off before the hatching. And I even got us a private location,” she gestured around the weyr. “This will be the best pre-hatching party ever. At least stay and get some snacks to go.”

Kaedin listened to his fellow Candidate while silently ruminating to himself. How was she so cheerful, and seeming so assured of herself? As much as the dragonhealer wanted to Impress there was a small part of him that seemed to dread Hatchings, or more specifically the feeling that came after when he left the Sands alone _again_. Nothing about that but him in a mood that was even close to celebratory.

"Nothing more important," he finally answered him "just nothing that I can think of that I'd rather do less than party with a bunch of people..." He let the _who'll probably leave me in the Sands alone again_ be silent.

Cirina looked surprised, and a little hurt, considering she was part of that 'bunch of people', but she just said primly, "Well, that's your call, but you'd better hope there's a dragon that wants a loner with no sense of fun. You can still take some snacks back to the barracks if you want." She glanced towards the ledge, which was empty of both Aeoluth and O'rosin. "... Whenever the snacks get here."

Kaedin cracked a half-smile and the pitiful beginnings of a laughed died before the breath left his lips replaced with a sigh that sounded like it could birth a sob. He tried to cover it by clearing his throat, his free hand flexing as if his pouch of Hatching sands was in it.

"Here's hoping" he managed to reply, turning to continue placing decorations. He had no idea how Cirina could be so jovial, but by Faranth's First he wished he could muster even a grain of that feeling.

"Fingers crossed for us all," she chirped, giving a little spin to inspect their work, "well, thanks for the help, at least. Everyone should be arriving soon and it looks perfect."
