}:Welcome to my Weyr, Zarkarth,:{ Loseth said from where he lounged near the Star Stones.
Stretched out on the sun-baked Weyrrim, Zarkarth could see everything. Not just an expansive view of the Weyr proper, but also -- and mostly importantly -- Jossenth's ledge. He liked to be nearby in case his mate ever needed anything, and he'd yet to spend more than a few minutes on another ledge that was technically deemed 'his', since Th'reyos usually slept somewhere inside. It wasn't like it was going anywhere.
}:Thank you, Loseth.:{ Zarkarth rumbled pleasantly, his head swinging in the bronze's direction. In the angling afternoon light, the way the lake surface danced and heaved like a million tiny pearls beat watching it blizzard against Dragonsfall's cliffs any day. }:It's a fabulous Weyr. At this rate I may never leave.:{
}:It's the best Weyr,:{ Loseth said with pride.
Zarkarth was almost inclined to agree with him there. He had certainly been finding ways of enjoying himself since their arrival, almost as much as Th'reyos. When he and Jossenth weren't curled up together, he had been reaping great pleasure from reminding these Dolphin Cove males that _they_ couldn't have caught her if they'd tried-- which was worse, sadly, because apparently they had.
It was behaviour that might be unbecoming in an ideal world-- but simply being brown rather than bronze was an affront in some circles, the same with being a transplant from another Weyr entirely, not to mention the sheer extent of his bragging and gloating. But Zarkarth was proud. And Zarkarth didn't care. It was a nice surprise to be welcomed by a dragon who knew that pride, too.
}:This feels like a good place to rear young.:{ The tip of his tail flicked in consideration, asking Loseth, }:Have all your children hatched here?:{
}:Yes. I've had many. Panitath is a good mate and we make strong hatchlings.:{ He sent warm thoughts to the gold. }:Is this your first clutch?:{
}:It is.:{ and although unlikely, not his last.
}:Congratulations. Browns don't often catch queens. Some of the bronzes are very upset,:{ Loseth added with amusement.
Zarkarth tilted his head consideringly, though he was already well apprised. }:Upset?:{ He rumbled. }:At their lack of skill? Endurance? Who can blame them.:{
Loseth's eyes whirled faster. Zarkarth was certainly not humble. }:You're right, they should be angry with themselves. They should have flown better.:{
}:Mm yes, it must really burn them to lose to such an _inferior_ color.:{ Zarkarth said facetiously, a lick of orange briefly joining the glitter of his eyes. Regardless of color, Jossenth had wanted the best, and gotten it. }:If they were better, then they would have won.:{
}:I would have won, but N'vanik doesn't let me chase other golds.:{ The bronze huffed. }:He says I shouldn't be greedy.:{
Zarkarth did not say: your rider may have a point. Or: that the bronze ought to stick to his established mate and show loyalty to his queen. Nor did he say: that he highly doubted Loseth could have actually caught Jossenth, when she was such a slighter, sleeker, more spontaneous-minded gold.
Instead, Zarkarth said sympathetically, }:Mine didn't want me to chase, either.:{ all the while feeling inordinately smug. }:But I ignore that. He often needs a good push in the right direction, and he's been enjoying himself here ever since.:{
}:Mine needs to be pushed, too,:{ Loseth said. }:It's good they have us, or they would hold back too much and make themselves unhappy.:{
Zarkarth rumbled in agreement. }:Precisely, it's better for everyone when the dragons are making the decisions on dragon matters. Mine doesn't usually struggle with holding back, but he often needs steering. They are still like their young selves, sometimes, aren't they?:{
After a long pause, the brown's eyes began a loose, green whirl. }:Perhaps ours should meet.:{ He said with amusement.
}:That's not a bad idea.:{ Loseth rolled onto his side and sprawled in the sun.
Zarkarth's tail tip twitched. }:Good.:{
In approving, salient silence, they sunned, the barest whisper of a breeze cutting through the southern heat.
Zarkarth didn't move again until the sun had angled well over the ocean and painted the sky a soft, saffrony pink. Then he rose like the tide itself, unfurling his great wings and giving each muscled limb a long, luxuriating stretch. What a day, what an evening. What a Weyr.
Instinctively his head inclined toward the dining hall. He leapt into the cooling sky, his sun-baked mindvoice reaching to the head bronze, }:Let us know when Yours is free, Loseth, and I'll wrangle Mine. He's easy like that.:{
