Aydhan

Tymborikath loomed over the hatching grounds, curiosity and excitement barely held in check by sternly reminded etiquette and propriety. She'd wanted to get a better look, but Tzenketh had snapped at her a few days ago when she'd gotten a little too close. Her rider had been no help then and she wasn't now.

**Do not upset her.** Aydhan chided. **Not everyone is as comfortable with others near their babies as you are, dear heart.**

Tymborikath snorted. }: How are the Sands, Imbeth? They will be mine after yours.:{

}:They are mine _now_,:{ came the clipped reply. }:For _my_ eggs.:{

}: Yes! :{ Tymborikath shuffled on the ledge, her claws making excited tippy-taps on the stone. }: They are very lovely. You've made a very good nest. :{

}:I know.:{ Imbeth’s disdainful snort echoed through the Hatching Caverns. After a long pause Imbeth asked, }:Why do you want to see my eggs?:{

}: Because they're _eggs_! :{ Tymborikath answered excitedly. }: And they're new and shiny, and I like to guess which one is which and which ones will pick who. :{

**You barely like your own eggs, darling.**

Tymborikath bounced her weight from one side to the other on the ledge, tail swishing with restrained excitement. It was not, technically, a wiggle, but the caverns had a slight echo and it was possible someone might hear the thumping and think otherwise.

There was another long pause as Imbeth considered. Her eggs _were_ the best, and who better to marvel at them than another queen? But there was also something within her that didn’t want _any_ dragon near her eggs. Or anyone. She knew that no one would dare to harm them, but she was still uneasy. Imbeth huffed through her nose as she debated. Finally she said, }:You may look. But only _look_.:{

Tymborikath let out a delighted rumble (moreso a warble).

}:I will! :{ She promised. Her eyes whirled fast in blues and greens as she glided down from the ledge with exaggerated care. }: Look at them all. You did the finest job. :{

}:Yes, I did.:{ The flattery helped mollify Imbeth’s nerves a bit. Her wings flared slightly as Tymborikath landed. }:My rider wants to let the _candidates_ in. I do not trust them.:{

}: Why not? They are big and clumsy, yes, but they will care for the little ones after they hatch.{ Tymborikath shuffled as gently as she could through the sands, careful to keep her distance from where the eggs lay. }: My rider's littlest is one of them. She is always well behaved. :{ Aydhara was not, but Tymborikath didn't remember that.

Imbeth considered this. }:Fine. Perhaps your rider’s little. But I don’t like the others.:{

Tymborikath rumbled happily. The little would like that, but the gold would not tell her. She moved carefully in the sand, trying not to get _too_ near any eggs, though she stopped for a moment to push a little more sand around one.

Imbeth’s eyes narrowed. }:What are you doing.:{

}: Helping. :{ Tymborikath answered, so focused on being careful that she didn't notice the change in Imbeth.

With a roar that surprised even herself, Imbeth lunged forward and snapped her teeth near the other queen’s wing. }:MY NEST IS PERFECT!:{

What echoed from the hatching cavern next was a shriek, a roar as Tzenketh roused from a nap and came to investigate, and a wail as Tymborikath fled from the cavern like a small child, crying for her rider.

Her rider, however loving and permissive, was not supportive. **I told you. Get back here.**
