Description: Fayne chastises her husband for neglecting himself - again.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 7, day 21 of Turn 3
Fayne stood at the doorway that separated their bedroom from the living room, her foot tapping on the stone floor, her arms folded over her chest, her fingers drumming against her upper arms, her expression fiercely stern and _very_ annoyed as she stared at her husband - who seemed to be completely oblivious to her scrutiny.
"Kiyan. Just _what_, exactly, did you do your hand?"
Kiyan jumped, dropping the book he'd been looking at on the desk and shoving his hand behind his back belatedly. "Hello, dear. When did you get home?"
She came forward, her frown deepening into a scowl as she pointed to his arm. "Let me see it."
Looking guilty, Kiyan extended his hand. "It was just a _little_ scratch, and I was going to get it seen to, I promise. But I found this book that I thought I'd left behind at the Hall..."
She took his hand in both of hers and slowly began peeling the scrap of material that he must've assumed passed for a proper bandage. Once his hand was free, she studied the gash, and dried blood, before looking up to glare at him. "You call _this_ a scratch?"
She didn't wait for an excuse as she pulled him into the bathing room. Kneeling in front of one of the cabinets, she began searching for a clean towel to soak in water.
Kiyan sat down, holding his hand obediently on one leg. "It didn't hurt that badly," he protested meekly. "I'd honestly forgotten all about it!"
Not that he could be forgetting about it now... peeling off the drying bandages hadn't exactly tickled.
After soaking the towel in water, Fayne came over and sat beside him, pulling his hand over to her so she could begin cleaning it. "Kiyan, you _always_ forget. And with that constant forgetting, you neglect yourself." She must've repeated this certain little lecture to him at _least_ once every month for the past twenty-three Turns they had been married.
"That's why I have you," Kiyan replied with a fond smile at his wife.
"Imagine how much trouble I'd be in if you weren't around to take care of me."
She winced at his remark. "It's painful for me to even _think_ about that, love." Fayne allowed that term of endearment to slip in. Yes, she was supposed to be "angry" with him, but she always found that her annoyance faded a little whenever he smiled at her like that.
"Good. I know you won't leave me to fend for myself, then." Once she'd finished cleaning his hand he tugged her down for a kiss.
After they parted, she looked at him. "Family is my first priority, and you, husband, are family."
"I certainly am," he replied, letting her have his hand again so she could bandage it. "And I don't mind not having to share you with anyone else. I need all of your attention now, don't I?"
"You always do." Her eyes flickered knowingly to his briefly, before she looked down to concentrate on the task at hand. "But technically, love, you _do_ share me - with the whole Hold."
It was something Kiyan didn't spend much time thinking about. Having a wife who outranked him in a territory like Emerald Falls could be an uncomfortable sort of thing, he'd been discovering lately. Not that he begrudged his wife her opportunity... but life had been nicer when he hadn't _had_ to share her with an entire Hold. "During the day, maybe.
But for the evening you're mine."
A smile pulled at her lips as she finished tying the bandage. "Mm-hm...
Something that you've made quite clear to me on some occasions..."
"Maybe I need to make it a little more clear," he whispered, letting his lips brush the rim of her ear. "Am I patched up to your satisfaction, wife?"
"For now," she murmured. She pulled back just a little to look into his eyes. "But I'll have to rebandage it later..." She leaned forward to brush the tip of her nose against his, shifting slightly in his lap.
He was older than he'd been once, but Kiyan still managed to stand with his wife in his arms. "In that case... I think I'd like to take you somewhere a little more comfortable."
She wrapped a willing arm around his neck. "I think," she bent to kiss the bend of his shoulder, "that that's a good idea, love."
