Description: Two greens rise to mate at the same time…and are much more polite than the golds
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 10 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: Cyradis, B'nell
Aphirith was, as always, flying to the beat of her own drum. Her cycle seemed to come at her own schedule, whether E'tariax liked it or not, and the only tell was his own growing desire. He hardly noticed her own warm glow until it was brought to his attention that it was now, it was time, in the middle of 'drills.
**You little monster.** E'tariax grumbled as he waved the signal for dismissal at Cyradis and B'nell and all but demanded that Aphirith land and drop him off before she started her nonsense. She landed roughly, roaring her impatience as her rider vaulted down. Pain lanced up his leg as he landed, and he was barely able to refocus to keep her on the ground long enough to get the riding straps off her. She launched herself back up into the air, her wings dark against the midmorning sun. E'tariax stumbled back from the sudden gust and spray of sand, cursing under his breath as he unbuckled his helmet and pulled it off. **Couldn't have waited an extra five minutes, could you?** He thought, though his thoughts were swallowed by Aphirith's challenging scream as she climbed higher, daring the males to pursue.
}:_Oh,_ how DARE she!:{ Phyllameth screeched from where she’d been blooding a kill, her vibrant green hide a pulsating beacon. }:You couldn’t _wait_?!:{ She flung the herdbeast carcass aside and launched herself into the skies of Dolphin Cove as well. Except _she_ was going to fly over the ocean where all of the males would _surely_ follow.
Lyani felt a bubble of laughter escape her as she realized that Aphirith and Phyllameth were going to be sharing the skies for their flights. There was plenty of Dolphin Cove territory for both greens to rise comfortably.
}:Join me.:{ Phyllameth invited with a sultry-rasp as she extended her invitation to the males of Dolphin Cove Weyr.
Skadith had been watching Phyllameth with rapt interest - how she moved, how she vocalized, how she claimed the blood-soaked air around her. He watched, counting each precious second of her blooding her kill. He watched, more and more eyes flocking to her. He could feel their want as keenly as his own, thick tail lashing in uncharacteristic impatience.
Suddenly a wave of heat drew his attention up, away. Aphirith too. Her torrid screech was almost too good to resist. Several males immediately shot up after her and Skadith's wings did unfurl too, momentarily intrigued at her challenge. But in an unusual state of harmony, they - man and dragon - considered the two greens together and finding no bad choice, Skadith went surging after Phyllameth over the open ocean, determined to have who he'd long decided was going to be his.
E'tariax was not the only one caught unawares by his dragon's sudden decision-making. M'trel had planned to get some food before disappearing into his office to finish up paperwork after practice when Noruith just...took off! Left him on the ledge! }: I must catch Phyllameth, :{ the brown said quickly. M'trel scanned the sky, trying to find the green, but gave up. Thank Faranth there were stairs he could take to the flight weyrs!
N'tan was not surprised- Bastiath had been watching Phyllameth for a while. The brown had a bad habit of chasing his wingmates, whatever his rider's opinion on the matter. It was, therefore, almost a relief when a second green suddenly shrieked her own challenge into the air. The brown froze in indecision, head snapping from one to the other. Taking advantage of the opportunity, N'tan gave him a little push, away from their wingmate, towards Aphirith, who's rider at least wasn't young enough to be his daughter. The brown left furrows in the dirt as he launched himself after Aphirith instead.
There was no hesitation from Jagobroth. There was no green in the world like Aphirith, no other green worth holding his attention after the flight was concluded. He would never let another have her, not without a fight. And as much as he was not sad to see competitors take themselves out of the running by chasing that other one, he could not help but be offended that they would choose anyone over his Aphirith. She deserved every chaser. And Jagobroth would outfly them all.
Aphirith roared in laughter towards Phyllameth. She briefly considered following her out towards the ocean, eager to see which of the males would chase _her_ instead of that mulchy-looking thing. A veritable horde of blues and browns and bronze, chasing and fighting after them. But her own spark of jealousy and E'tariax's insistence drove her landwards instead, bellowing for her favorites to chase _her_.
E’tariax pressed a hand to his temple as the connection between them flared with her exhilaration. Her thoughts surged into hisâ€"wild, untamed, and utterly in control. The greens and blues below were dismissed with a flick of her tail. Only the strongest and cleverest would have the right to claim her today, and they’d have to prove themselves worthy in the skies she commanded.
Never had a mating flight felt like _this_ before. Phyllameth’s desire to be chosen over Aphirith bled through the link she shared with Lyani, leaving the greenrider feeling heady and exhilarated. Her hands trailed over the shoulders of the men who were gathered in the flight room as she stalked among them. Shards, she couldn’t _wait_ to see which one would be hers!
Aphirith might want the strongest and cleverest, but Bastiath only had strength in his favor. He chased her with a single-minded determination, but very little finesse, hoping to simply bully the others out of his way. N'tan himself took up a spot in the flight room, leaning against a wall and loosening his collar, trying to get some air against overheated skin.
R'fayne's eyes followed Lyani's hands on him, as intent as Skadith was to _have_ and _take_. It was an exhilarating flight. Cool salt air churned with the vicious sounds of snapping wings, intensifying the exhilaration as the dense pack of chasers at times felt as hot and tightly packed as the flightroom.
Skadith was close, but at this point his muscles burned so badly that he took an errant wing across his eyes without reprisal, simply refusing to lose his path to victory. His teeth did gnash the air, roaring lust-fuelled rage at the offender before ducking beneath someone else, this time aiming to emerge just behind Phyllameth and at last be the one to twine with her above the southern sea.
Noruith would not let Skadith win so easily though. The bigger brown plowed his way forward, neck and neck, first snarling at his rival and then purring at Phyllameth. }: Choose me. :{
Jagobroth had chased Aphirith enough to know that he could never assume it would be like the last time. He had to give her something fresh, something new with every chase. He paid little mind to the others-- only enough to outdo them at every turn. But his greatest focus was on her.
It had been a good flight. Aphirith felt the exhaustion starting to creep into her wings, though she wasn't ready yet to come down. It must look like it was _her_ idea to come spiralling back down to Pern. And so it was, the green twisting and darting through the males like a snake sliding through the grass, until she curled up just close enough to her favorite partner for him to entwine their necks and begin the guided plummet downwards.
Phyllameth tucked her wings tight against her spine and plummeted in a dizzying swirl before flaring open her wings with a sharp snap. Riding the thermal up, she screamed when talons suddenly latched onto her and a brown neck wrapped around her own. Noruith!
On the ground, Lyani pounced onto M'trel like a wild feline. The brownrider reacted eagerly, as thrilled to be entwined with her as his dragon was with Phyllameth.
