Description: Sol and Ciara visit about the baby, finding some unique wisdom in their friendship and company.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 16 of Turn 3
With Ciara's approaching due date, Solieira had been checking on her even more regularly than normal. She was thrilled for her greenrider friend, and even K'sedel, as surprising as that was. It made her almost wish she
-had- gotten the Weyrleader in bed if he was _that_ virile!
Her laughter echoed for a moment and she shook her head as she climbed the last few steps to Ciara's Weyr. Things really had worked out the way they should have, and she enjoyed her time with U'das. Even more than she had thought she would...
Her smile as she thought of that bronzerider and _his_ own virility was warm as she knocked.
}:It is the Headwoman,:{ Ellianith yawned, rustling her wings. Grinning, Ciara gave one final, affectionate pat on her green's shoulder and went over to the door. "Sol! I'm so glad to see you. Come on in!"
Sol's answering smile was bright. Ciara was the closest thing she had to a daughter nearby, though her own children visited when they could.
But the greenrider was also her friend, and that was a special gift.
"Hello, greenrider." She teased, then gave her a big, but careful, hug.
"You look wonderful!" And she did. Ciara was glowing; pregnancy evidently agreed strongly with her. "I just came to check on you; you know I'm a meddling old Headwoman."
"Ah, but I love your meddling! I'm certainly not one to complain," she grinned, gesturing the older woman inside. "Especially with so much to do, now that this little one is so close to being born." Ciara laid a hand gently over her rounded stomach.
Sol laid her own hand over Ciara's and felt for any movement of her babe for a time, smiling all the while. "You're taking care of yourself, aren't you? Resting and only straight flying?" The Headwoman grinned again, knowing full well she was since she'd just asked her that a few days ago.
The greenrider snorted and made a playful, dismissive gesture. "Of course, Sol! But you knew that already. And I'm resting, I promise you. K'sedel is 'meddling' too, you know," she laughed. "He makes sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to."
"He better be! Since he is your Weyrleader in addition to being the baby's father." She said in a faint scolding tone.
But her smile was warm. "I'm so happy for you both! Have you talked about names?"
"Mmmm, yes. There are so many we have picked out. It'll be hard to choose, I think!"
"Well you just make sure I'm there when your baby is born, lady. I was there when both of your other children were born, and I'll be there for this one. Are you going to foster him or her right away, or wait a bit?
Or have you thought about it? K'sedel is getting on in turns!"
"I think I want to wait a bit before I foster the child... If I can, Sol. It's so hard..."
Solieira nodded. She saw the children almost everyday, but she didn't spend a lot of time with them. Gaiya did, but she had often wondered about the dragonriders who fostered so many. She had not Fostered her own, not having a dragon to care for, so she had kept them with her and her Weyrmate for the most part.
"I understand completely Ciara. Fostering is the normal way of things for Weyrfolk, but that doesn't mean we all get used to things. Keep the child for a while, lass. And spend part of everyday with him or her after, if you like. " She squeezed her hand.
"Its not all flaming Thread and riding a dragon is it, lass?" She said, in her understated wisdom.
Ciara slowly shook her head. "It's a big part of it, but it isn't what...what it's all about."
The Headwoman nodded, thinking of U'das again, and the fact that a man with as many turns as K'sedel could father a _child_. Her smile was deep, and content, as she put an arm around Ciara's shoulders.
"No, lass, its about far more."
