N'kevyn

There was a brown in his spot. Nevermind that Avicath had only discovered that particular spot caught the sun just right about a sevenday ago. He'd decided it was his the moment he'd found it.

And now it was occupied.

Landing heavily farther back from the shore, Avicath moved to an inferior spot, making a show of stretching and settling down with contented noises. }: I was just arguing with Tymborikath. She doesn't think this is the best spot for sunning,:{ he said conversationally to the brown near him. Werreth, he thought.

}: Tymborikath? :{ Werreth repeated, interest piqued. Tymborikath was one of the queens! Brown dragons didn't usually fly queens -- well, sometimes they did -- but Werreth thought that he could definitely keep up with most of the bronzes during a flight. }: Does she know of better sunning spots? :{ Far be it for Werreth to ignore the potential advice of a gold dragon. They knew a lot more than brown dragons did.

}:Oh, she thinks she does,:{ Avicath said. }:She thinks the heights are better because it's closer to the sun, but you and I know that this is the better spot, right?:{ With an exaggerated sigh, the bronze continued, }:We've always shared a weyr,:{ not strictly true, he was older than the gold, but close enough as far as he could remember. }:And you know how golds can be,:{ that was in a tone that implied that Avicath was an expert on how golds could be. }:She's always convinced she knows better.:{

}: They _are_ gold dragons, :{ Werreth pointed out. He looked around his sunny little spot to verify Avicath's words. It definitely looked like the best spot. Should he share? No, there wasn't really enough room for both him and Avicath, given their size. But maybe he could be sunny company instead! }: The heights aren't a bad spot to sun, but they're so craggy. Where we are is much better. It's smooth and comfortable. How long have you been her mate? :{

He'd had a tentative hope that would have sent the brown packing in search of the Tymborikath-approved sunning spot, but he wasn't overly disappointed when it didn't work. Avicath sighed dramatically, }:My rider made us move in with them as soon as she graduated. I never got to have my own ledge again. And she flings her tail around when she sleeps. Sometimes it hits me in the face.:{ The bronze's tone implied that this was the most grievous of sins.

}: Oh, she...um...that sucks. :{ Werreth didn't want to talk _badly_ about a queen -- that was rude! They were the most beautiful, most perfect dragons around! It would be really rude to talk about one badly, even if she was a restless sleeper. }: I bet she's really pretty to look at in the sun though. Right? :{

}:Of course she's very pretty.:{ Avicath agreed, }:And she lets me eat her leftovers,:{ which earned her a lot of points from the slightly portly bronze. }:But she also hogs our ledge.:{ Which wasn't really a ledge, considering they had a ground weyr.

}: Oh, that's not...nice. Well, I mean, if you don't have a very big ledge, I could see how she could just...naturally hog it and not mean to. It's nice of her to share her food though. Not all queens do that. :{

Avicath gave another dramatic sigh before acknowledging, }:I suppose she is. She is the best queen,:{ he said with a grudging sort of loyalty and affection, }:not just because her rider is mine's mate.:{ It was mostly because her rider was his rider's weyrmate.

}: She is lucky to have you as a mate too, :{ Werreth said. }: Maybe one day I will have a mate that will share leftovers with me. That sounds nice. :{ The brown sounded wistfully optimistic. He looked over towards where Tymborikath was. }: Maybe I should go introduce myself? :{ he wondered to Avicath. And then, quickly, }: As a friend! Just a friend! :{

}:She is very lucky. Our riders were mates before she hatched,:{ Avicath said. }:You should introduce yourself, if you haven't. She might be offended, otherwise.:{ He certainly didn't sound worried that the brown might go steal his 'mate'. Rather, he was again eying that perfect sunning spot that the other dragon was occupying.

}: Oh, that's a good idea! I'll go do that. :{ Tricked, Werreth uncurled himself in preparation to leave. }: Thank you for the conversation! Maybe we can do this again? :{

}:Oh yes,:{ Avicath agreed. }:And tell Tymborikath I sent you. She'll be extra impressed,:{ Avicath said. He had the restraint to wait until the brown took off before stealing the spot.

}: I will! :{ Werreth said as he flew off.
