It was a hot, beautiful summer's day at Barrier Lake Weyr, and the Weyr was abuzz with energy for the festivities that night. Finally, after turns of construction, the Weyr could stand on its own.

Over the course of the day, the field commonly called the 'weyrbowl' was cleared. Tents were erected along the edges for stalls of food and drink. A stage was set for the harpers to perform. Poles were erected to hang glowbaskets, so as the sun set the weyrbowl could be lit with a soft, ethereal glow. Plenty of tables and chairs for all the weyrfolks and visiting dignitaries to eat together. Dragons moved in and out along the fringes, dropping off the visitors along the edges. Weyrlings escorted some, giving tours of their newly constructed home. Some weyrlings could even boast of having built it themselves.

Never one for a _simple_ party, Aydhan had more than a few hapless riders (N'kevyn included) arrange enough lumber for bonfires along the southern beach to be lit as evening crept in..

The sun had set and the party was in full swing when Aydhan finally took the stage. The music quieted, and she hardly needed any amplification for her voice to be heard from the stage. "Welcome, everyone, to Barrier Lake Weyr!"

A cheer resounded from the tables densely packed with wingriders, and Aydhan laughed. "What a gorgeous day and night to celebrate our beloved Barrier Lake. In the few months I've been here I have seen your resilience, your determination, and your camaraderie. You should all be proud of what you have accomplished here, and what you will _continue_ to accomplish here! Barrier Lake isn't just a Weyr; it is a testament to your hard work, your unity, and your determination!

"There are many people we should thank tonight. Our crafters, our laborers, our farmers, our technicians. I could talk far into the night about everyone who has contributed to our Weyr's existence-- but for the sake of our bellies and our dancing feet, I will keep it brief. First, I want to acknowledge Master Bilpen and the incredible construction crews. They have turned an abandoned mine into a home for us. They have not only built walls and roofs but our future.

"Jayzine, our incredible Headwoman, and our Lower Caverns staff. Jayzine welcomed each of us with warmth and ensured we had a place to stay and food on our tables. She managed the kitchens before we even _had_ kitchens, and she's cared for us every step of the way.

"Our honorable Lord Holder of Barrier Lake Hold, who welcomed us and our claim to the Weyrhold with open arms. We are happy to be your neighbors, and may this continue to be a fruitful partnership.

"We can't forget D'hol, our steadfast Weyrleader. Under his leadership, we've bravely faced Thread, defended our skies and proved our strength time and again.

"Our lovely Weyrwoman, Kapera and gold Riyanth: it has been under your steadfast leadership that the Weyr has flourished, and you've shown us the meaning of strength and community."

"And last but not least, I wanted to give a special acknowledgement to the man who brought us here. He was a beacon when River Bluff Weyr fell, and he led Barrier Lake when it was only a spark of an idea. Weyrsecond K'ran, without your guidance and vision, we wouldn't be here.

"Together we have built more than just a Weyr." Aydhan said, gesturing to everyone gathered. "We have forged a community, and a family. Tonight we celebrate our achievements, our resilience, and the bonds we've forged. To Barrier Lake Weyr, and to all of you!"

The crowd cheered and raised their glasses to toast with her. She stepped back and gestured for the harpers to begin again, and they struck up a fast-paced, merry tune.

This would be a party to be remembered.
