Description: R'enh and Saibra reconnect after Mnoranth's injury in Chioneth's flight
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 4 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: I'srein, Oselle
}:Your weyrmate is back in the weyr. I have spoken with Mnoranth this
morning.:{ Chioneth told Saibra as the Weyrwoman finished up her
meeting with Oselle.
**Tell him I'm bringing breakfast up.**
She actually felt a little apprehensive about seeing R'enh. It was an
odd feeling to have, especially with someone she held so dear. He
hadn't come home the evening before, understandably, but with what had
happened between Chioneth and Mnoranth in the air, she wasn't sure
what sort of reception to expect from her weyrmate.
Was he upset about not being Weyrleader? Would he blame her? Were they
supposed to act as if nothing had happened?
When she arrived home, she followed the sounds of water, finding R'enh
in their bathing pool.
"I brought breakfast," she said, holding up a basket.
"Thank you," he said without looking up at her. His hair was full of
soap so he ducked under the water to rinse before reaching for the
side and climbing out of the pool. He grabbed a towel and began on his
head while water sluiced down his naked body to pool on the floor.
He walked toward her "I appreciate it," he said knowing his tone
didn't exactly match the words. When she didn't move he slid past her.
"I am just going to get dressed."
She watched him go before turning and going to their dining area. It
wasn’t the greeting she had been hoping for - there had been a small
part of her that had hoped he would act as if nothing had happened.
**So much for that,** she thought as she opened the basket and
unpacked the fresh baked bread, breakfast meats, and fruit.
Dressing quickly in comfortable clothes, he returned to the dining
area. "That looks good," he said and this time he meant it. "Sorry
I..." he shook his head. "It's Mnoranth and transferring knowledge and
everything else that goes along with it."
"It's fine," Saibra said, trying for a light tone, even if it felt
forced. "It's... it's a lot." She glanced at him tentatively, unsure
if he wanted to talk about the flight, Mnoranth, or I'serin at the
moment.
He reached for her hand and squeezed lightly. Then he looked into her
eyes and lifted it to his lips. "Yes," he nodded. "It's a lot."
Saibra closed the gap between them, pressing into her weyrmate's arms
and burying her face into the front of his tunic. She wished she had
words to fix the last twenty-four hours. "I love you," she murmured.
His arms went around her and he kissed her temple. "I love you too,"
he said softly. "We'll get through this."
That was exactly what she had needed to hear him say. "Of course we
will," she said, squeezing him a little tighter.
He held her a moment longer then let his fingers slide down her arm to
her hand. "There's a lot to do today," he mused. "Can we have a nice
private dinner this evening? Just you and me? I think we need some
alone time."
"I would like that," she agreed. Soon enough they would need to put on
their Weyrwoman and Wingleader faces in front of the rest of the Weyr.
They would need to show their wingriders that the new transition of
power hadn't completely thrown them for a loop.
"I need to go check on Mnoranth then meet with the new Weyrleader." He
intended to support the man but there wasn't much he could do except
for meetings, until Mnoranth was ready to fly again. He hoped to hand
off the job as seamlessly as possible.
He framed her face with his hands and gave her a gentle loving kiss.
"Of course," Saibra murmured. She also had a meeting lined up with the
new Weyrleader around lunch time.
"Alright then," he pulled out a chair. "Let's have breakfast.
Knowing that she and R'enh were still on solid ground, Saibra was able
to turn her thoughts once again towards breakfast. Still, she would be
unable to see her weyrmate and think of Mnoranth's injuries without a
trickle of guilt for some time to come.
