Late because I forgot to send this in!
Despite being busy with additional duties now that the Weyrlingmaster
was leading Volcano Wing, R'lor had still managed to find a few
candlemarks of free time to visit Timassa. He stepped into the weyr
bearing a basket. "I thought you might like some fresh fruit."
"Oh how well you remember," she smiled reaching out for the basket.
There were grapes, redfruit, and citron. All her favorites. "Thank
you R'lor," she said fervently. "I think the kitchens are getting
tired of my requests."
"If you're craving something Dolphin Cove has in plenty, you can send
me a note. I might not have time to bring it myself but I could send
one of the young weyrlingstaff."
"Naw," she waved a hand. "This is great," she smiled and bit into a
juicy redfruit. "You know what I do think about though? You remember
those little cream horns my gran used to bake for the flight rooms? Oh
those were so good," a little shiver ran up her back at the thought.
R'lor chuckled. "If you want those, I think you'll have to ask your
gran. By the egg, those _were_ good though. Now you've got me wanting
them!"
"Well, hopefully ma will be here soon and bring some with her. One can
hope, right?"
"Your mother is coming?"
"Yes, well I've asked her to come. She has experience with twins,"
Timassa smiled.
His brows drew together in concern. "Yes, there is a heightened risk.
Which. . . I'm sure you're well aware of." He cleared his throat,
feeling bad about bringing that up. "But your family has a history of
twins. _Healthy_ twins."
"Yes," she nodded with a smile. "But D'hol doesn't know that and he's
worried. So, I asked ma to come to help him deal with it." She wiped
her fingers free of the juice. "Do you have any kids yet?"
"I have a few. I'm sure I've told you about them." R'lor loved
children, and while he did give some special treatment to those he had
potentially fathered, he otherwise saw all the children of the Weyr as
equal.
She chuckled. "So you've lost count and are embarrassed to admit it?"
She shook her head with a snort. "Blueriders."
R'lor shrugged. "Weyrlife. The realities of flights. And I don't have
the burden of carrying the children I conceive."
She still smiled at him, though her face felt a bit stiff, as she
remembered back so many turns to her first flight and its aftermath.
"Is that why you didn't argue with me about my desire to terminate
back then?"
"Yes." He laid a hand on her arm. "I didn't want to influence you in
any way, so I accepted your choice." Besides, she'd been so young, and
barely out of weyrlinghood. It wasn't surprising that she didn't want
to keep the pregnancy, and it had all been awkward enough for him
already.
She looked down at her expanding waistline and the fingers threaded
through each other in her lap. "Probably for the best. I don't think I
was anywhere near ready back then." She looked back up at him this
time with a genuine sparkle in her eyes. "Thank you."
"I'm happy enough to be an uncle to your little ones, if that's
alright with you."
She nodded and bumped him with her shoulder. "Of course it is wherry
brain," she smirked as used her childhood nickname for him.
R'lor laughed. "You shouldn't use that kind of language. You're going
to be a mother."
"They can't hear me yet. I'm sure I'll be adult enough later to be
shocked by that kind of language." Let's go get some soup. They have
some great soup in the dining hall and right now is when the afternoon
bread comes out of the ovens." She nodded with wide eyes and a grin.
"I find I like bread a lot these days."
"Oh really?" R'lor offered his arm.
"Really," she replied and took his arm.
