Description: K'sedel wants to talk to his Weyrlingmaster and his 'Second to
discuss the small clutch size's ramifications for their training
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 11 of Turn 3
Even if the clutch had been small, there were still weyrlings. And that
meant more discussions of what to do with them. It was an unusual
hatching, no bronzes and few browns and the question there was would
that mean they needed more attention?
With that thought in mind, K'sedel asked Nikornath if he could organize
a quick meeting with the Weyrlingmaster and his second.
}:J'an! Nikornath's wants to see us.:{ Alylth passed on the message to
his rider. }:And Dwarkanath's too.:{
**Pass him along the message that I am coming,** M'galec said as he
gathered up his things. This could be... interesting...
"Gentlemen. I'm glad you could join me," began K'sedel as his fellow
bronzeriders arrived. "Please take a seat."
M'galec nodded his greeting and took the seat offered, pulling out his
pen and hide. It was a habit of his.
"You wanted to speak to us?" queried J'an.
"Yes, yes I did. I wanted your opinion on the latest weyrling class."
K'sedel had come straight to the point. "It may be small, but I am sure
that there are the usual range of personalities there."
M'galec nodded. "Most certainly."
"I suppose what I'm really asking is how they are coping, most classes
are at least two maybe even three times the number in them. This one is
certainly different, more like a pre-pass size."
"It is small," said J'an. "But there are ways that it will work for
them. They'll get more attention paid to them for a start."
"A smaller size, but the individual attention will only do them good,"
the Weyrlingmaster Second
agreed. "However, when flying drills there will be no weyrlings to fill
in the bronze's places. Weyrling Assistants will have to fill those
spots, but it will work fine."
"Would it perhaps help if I detailed some of the younger bronzeriders to
help on those days?" suggested K'sedel.
"It's certainly an idea," agreed J'an.
"It could be useful to them, give them a bit of experience in leading."
"And everyone can benefit with a bit extra practice," M'galec added.
"How are they relating to the older class?" asked K'sedel. "They are a
lot closer together than some."
M'galec shrugged a shoulder. "I think it can only benefit their
relationships. Not only will they be a close knit group, which is
important, but they will be able to get to know all the weyrlings better
since there are fewer of them."
"It will mean that when the time comes to place them in the wings we
will have a much better idea of their strengths and weaknesses, be able
to find a better fit for them in due course," stated J'an.
"This may even end up being one of the most prepared classes of
Weyrlings to graduate since Thread returned, what will all the
individual attention and extra experienced leadership that we will be
able to afford them," M'galec added.
If nothing else, the statement was reassuring, thought K'sedel. "Would
you agree with that?"
The weyrlingmaster nodded. "I'd have to," he said nodding. "All we can
do is make sure that they are not treated any differently."
"And there would be no reason to do that." Just because the clutch was
a bit smaller than expected, M'galec saw no need for special treatment.
"They will be fine," stated J'an.
"The both of you are sure of that?" asked the Weyrleader.
"I have every confidence, sir," M'galec confirmed.
"In that case I'll take it as a given that they will graduate well."
The Second nodded. "I assure you, sir. They will be well trained."
"Then I'll leave them in your capable hands."
