Characters: Brennault, Zavek
Description: When his father gives word of the final – for real this time – piece in his sword quest puzzle, Brennault sends Marvel to Lavender Run with a letter for Zavek.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 9, day 10 of Turn 10
A bronze firelizard popped into the air of Zavek's kitchen early that morning with a letter in hand. He looked left, looked right. Set the letter on the table. He considered for a moment staying to find out what that delicious smell was... and then decided against it and popped back _between_.
The letter read as follows:
***
To Zavek,
I write to you from my father's station. I have successfully delivered Zaverak's message, and having collected the outgoing letters, I set out to return to Lavender Run in order to fulfill your request for a delivery.
However, on reaching my father's station, I received word of a change of plans regarding another job. I intended to travel north toward Topaz to harvest madder root near the coast, which was to be used to make dye, which was to go to the Weavers in exchange for the cloth, which I would then give to Master Dunrik at Barrier Lake for the steel that will be my sword.
Of course, you'll remember the sword.
My father learned that I could, instead, travel to a small holding out on one of the islands to the east of there, and work to procure a much finer, rarer dye in a much shorter time. This means that I must delay my return to you now but also that I will not have to be away for a much longer time afterward.
I hope that your package can wait just a little bit longer.
Kindest regards,
Brennault
P.S. I almost forgot! Marvel will come to you every morning from now until I get back to look for a response or to bring you news of my journey. Or both. If you have a letter for me, just hand it to him. If you're feeling generous, he loves a bit of meat now and again.

By the time Zavek found and read the letter, it was late afternoon. He'd been keeping himself busy with outdoor work, which wasn't hard to do when you ran a bovine, runnerbeast, and lavender farm.
He'd also been doing what he had promised to Brennault - watching the horizon for sign of the runner's return. So far, all of his watching had been unfruitful
After reading the letter, Zavek realized that his watch for Brennault was pointless. The ball of disappointment that he felt in the pit of his stomach made him crumple the letter in one of his clenched fists.
**How embarrassing,** he thought. Here he was, a grown man, waiting for sign of the young runner like some lovesick pup.
Despite the assurances that this would allow them more time down the road, Zavek felt sure this was Brennault's way of brushing him off gently. Brennault probably found someone to flirt and have fun with wherever he went, Zavek surmised as he turned and tossed the letter into the fireplace.
Why would he bother returning to Lavender Run, where they would have to hide and sneak, when he could easily procure relations at much more open-minded locations, or at the Weyr, where he was stationed?
