Description: R'nar moves to Barrier Lake
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 9, day 1 of Turn 10
Notes: Mentioned: Cyradis (not by name), Reyela, Naradis, K'don, A'vel, D'hol
Leaving wasn't easy. Nothing about Ranni's death had been easy. All of his family, the supportive ones anyway, were at Dolphin Cove. His mother. Reyela. Naradis. K'don. And then there was A'vel, easily his best and closest friend.
Going to Barrier Lake meant losing the support system that had kept him sane since her death but.... He had to go. Each day at Dolphin Cove fractured another piece of his heart. At this point, he wasn't sure what was left of his heart other than a pile of splintered shards.
A new location that was free of memories and the chance to fly under D'hol's instruction again would give him purpose. Having purpose each day would help him stay busy and not think too much about Ranni.
Eranar, their son, was already getting acquainted with his new foster mother, who had oo'd and aw'd over the dark haired baby.
At least this would be easy for Eranar, R'nar thought. He would grow up never knowing Ranni and not realizing what had been lost.
**That's not true,** he thought with a frustrated sigh. There would come a time when Eranar asked about his mother, and what would R'nar say?
**The truth?** he chuckled a little, feeling as though he could feel the look that she would be giving him at that moment. The truth was that Ranni had been stubborn, manipulative, secretive, and capable of doing just about anything to protect herself.... But, she had been an unfailingly loyal friend to Aviday and Lady Xeladrie. She'd had a sharp, dry sense of humor, and once Eranar was born, she had been the most attentive and loving mother.
If Eranra gained one-tenth of Ranni's intelligence and loyalty then he would be a force to be reckoned with for sure.
}:It's a bit cooler here, isn't it?:{ Iorath said to R'nar, settling on their new weyrledge.
**It is,** R'nar agreed. It had been several Turns since he had lived somewhere that had a true winter. He was conditioned to the tropical heat of Dolphin Cove.
It would be a nice change, he decided. No thinking of Ranni whenever he saw a woman in a flowery summer dress, because there would be less of those at Barrier Lake. Long sleeves and a scarf were more in order at this point of the season.
Stepping into the new weyr, one that had yet to have an occupant, R'nar ran his hand over the fresh wood of the newly constructed dresser. Everything was so new. Inhaling the scent of the fresh timber, R'nar exhaled and felt a calm peace settle in the middle of his chest.
This was right, he determined. A new start. For him. For Eranar.
}:Hmmm, there's a pretty green on the neighboring ledge.:{ Iorath told R'nar slyly as he draped himself and arranged his bronze body in such a way as to reflect the sunlight.
A smile tugged at R'nar's lips at his dragon's antics. He knew that Iorath was trying to cheer him up. The last thing, however, that R'nar wanted to think about was a woman.
**Knock yourself out, buddy.** He told Iorath as he began unpacking the bags that he had brought to Barrier Lake.
