Description: K'reyel and Saibra question D'kere and Jadirah
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 21 of Turn 10
As the Weyrleader's settled in again, the Weyrlingmaster's second entered
the room. "K'reyel, Saibra," he nodded to each as he took his seat.
"D'kere," K'reyel nodded back. "You know why you are here. Can you please
tell us in your own words, what happened between you and Yasmeane."
The bronzerider took a deep breath and launched into the incident exactly as
he remembered it...
**Flashback**
**Kenirath?** D'kere reached out to the bronze but he was still snoozing on
his ledge. The bronze had been curled up, enjoying his green mate, until she
had woken to take Talwynn to the Star Stones. The bronze, exhausted from
winning her flight earlier that day, did not even stir at his rider's mental
inquiry. D'kere smiled a little thinking that Kenirath deserved the rest.
Winning Talwynn's flight had been a much needed moment for him and the
greenrider. It had brokered a tentative peace between them that had not been
there in several days. Things were, by all means, not completely patched up
in their relationship, but the flight had at least given them a foundation
to begin with, even if it was a little shaky.
"How could you?"
His door burst open and he looked up in surprise at the sight of Yasmeane
standing in his doorway. Her normally meticulously styled hair was escaping
it's braid and hanging around her face, which was distorted into what looked
like a mixture of anger and panic.
"Yasmeane?" he asked, standing up.
"This is all your fault!" she screeched, slamming his office door shut
behind her.
D'kere's brow furrowed in bewilderment. What was she talking about? He tried
to think back to the last time he had seen her.... It had been just as Riveth
was rising, he had told her he couldn't help her and given her a list of
dragonriders who often helped virginal greenriders before their first
flight.
"Did... did Isaroth rise?" he asked, trying to guess what was the source of
her trauma.
"Yes," Yasmeane hissed, her green eyes dancing, standing out starkly against
her milky white skin.
The greenrider crossed the room.
"This is all your fault!"
"Yasmeane," D'kere said her name slowly, in warning.
Yasmeane slapped D'kere across the face, hard enough to make his left ear
ring, so he automatically took a step back to be out of her reach, in case
she felt like slapping him again. "This is all your fault!" she growled
again. "If you had done your job none of this would have happened! Look at
this," she lifted her skirts to show bruised thighs.
"Yasmeane," D'kere held up both hands, palms up, placatingly.
The greenrider launched herself at him and D'kere felt like he was fending
off a wild feline as she scratched at his neck and face. "Yasmeane!"
Irritation began to surge through him as he finally managed to catch her
arms. "Stop!" He tightened his grip to try and get her attention but she
seemed to be in a world of her own.
Suddenly she emitted an earsplitting wail that raised the hair on the back
of his neck. "Yasmeane?" He grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her
slightly.
**End Flashback**
"And that was when Kaibren walked in," D'kere said, finishing his account of
the events.
Saibra exchanged a glance with K'reyel. "You say her green rose yesterday?"
D'kere raised his shoulders. "I don't know, that's what she said. She didn't
seem... extremely coherent during the encounter."
"I'll have Chioneth find out," Saibra murmured to K'reyel, leaving the
Weyrleader to continue with his questions.
"Is it possible she had been drinking?" Just because Kaibren hadn't said
anything, didn't mean she hadn't, a bad flight experience could upset
anyone, but if there was an intoxicant involved as well it could cause the
disparity in their stories.
"I didn't smell anything on her breath, but I can't say for certain." D'kere
answered, his tone cool.
"Chioneth says that Isaroth did have a flight yesterday." Saibra
interjected.
"Did she say who won?" asked K'reyel. "Because whoever it was, we also need
to speak to them."
"Turning back to D'kere, "So there was no point in time that you approached
her with sexual intentions? You only held her to defend yourself? Is that
correct, based on my understanding of what you just told us."
"S'gair was the winner." Saibra relayed, while already telling Chioneth to
summon the dragonrider. "He is on sweeps, but Chioneth is calling him in."
"I only touched Yasmeane to create space between us or as defense." D'kere
said. "The only time anything sexual between us was mentioned was a few days ago when she asked me to sleep with her before her flight. Talwynn did not like the idea, I told her no, and that was the end of it on my end."
K'reyel was obviously thinking, clearly someone was not telling the truth,
but without hearing from S'gair or the healer, some things were still
supposition. But to him it was beginning to sound like Yasmeane might well
be upset that D'kere had turned her down. But also that something had gone
awry during her flight and whether D'kere was responsible for that, or the
consequences of it, he didn't know yet. "I have no more questions for you at
the moment, Anything from you Saibra?"
The Weyrwoman shook her head and lifted her hand at D'kere to let him know
that he was free to go for the moment. **Send in Jadirah,** she said to
Chioneth.
"Hopefully Jadirah will be able to shed a little light for us," Saibra said
to K'reyel as they waited for the healer.
Jadirah had been expecting to be called in, after how last night had gone,
and she'd made sure to look every inch the proper Healer. Her hair was
pulled back into an efficient bun, and as she entered she nodded in respect.
This wasn't a visit between her and Saibra as patient and Healer or friends,
but a formal report.
"Weyrleader, Weyrwoman, my duty to your dragons," she said in a cordial
tone.
"Master Jadirah, I apologize for the secrecy of last night. Would you kindly
tell us what you found when you gave Yasmeane her physical?" Saibra asked.
"I found a number of injuries consistent with a rough time in bed. There
were bruises on her, handprints that looked like someone forcibly held her
thighs apart," Jadirah answered.
"Is it possible to say how old the bruises were and how long she'd had
them?" K'reyel was wondering if it was possible that something had happened
well before the altercation with D'kere.
"They weren't immediately before I saw her. The coloring suggested between
several candlemarks and two days old."
"Were they consistent with the types of scrapes and bruises you have seen
from flights before?" Saibra asked.
"Absolutely. If the winner was holding her down forcefully - and I know with
the dragonlust in the picture they're not always aware of their own
strength - it would explain the fingerprints on the inner thighs. I've
treated male greenriders especially with similar or worse."
Saibra wrote down a note for herself. "Did it look as though she fought
back?"
"Yes, her nails were ragged and her hands indicated such."
She had noted earlier that D'kere had some marks on his neck, and what
looked like a bite mark, and wondered if those were from Yasmeane. Saibra
jotted a note to ask Talwynn about it.
"Thank you, Jadirah. I think that's all we need from you at the moment. If
you would go by and tell Talwynn she may come in now."
