K'ran

J'nus had been nice. A gentleman, Saidrene would say. Although she had been initially annoyed at Ashareth for having the gall to rise when things in her life were already a mess, she had actually enjoyed being free of the weight of her problems for a while. The release of emotions that had come with the flight felt liberating, even if it was only temporary.

Saidrene was not usually the type of greenrider to be shy after a flight with a new partner, but she had never been pregnant in a flight either. It hadn't seemed to bother J'nus though, which had at least restored some of Saidrene's tattered pride.

She didn't bother reaching out to Ashareth, knowing that the green was still quite sated and resting with her bronze mate. Instead, she made her way to the bathing pools, cleaned up, swung by the kitchens for a to-go basket, and then retreated to her weyr to be alone.

As ironic as it sounded, the sudden hazy lust of the mating flight had served to leave her feeling more clear-headed than she had the day before. It was easier for her now to analyze the situation with Alina and J'ackt and everything that had taken place with K'ran as well. She needed to apologize to K'ran, that much was evident to her.

"But I will not apologize to J'ackt," she said outloud, to her empty weyr as she ate. She was crystal clear on the point that she had done nothing to apologize to the bronzerider about. Alina on the other hand... perhaps there had been some possessiveness, some jealousy in Saidrene's motives of telling J'ackt about the baby.... For that, she would apologize, if Alina would listen.

A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.

"Come in," she called.

K'ran rarely regretted losing flights. Usually he regretted participating in them. But Rogueth and he had been twined in the knowledge of needing Ashareth/Saidrene. They had flung themselves most fully into the chase. To lose her had been devastating. He'd thrown himself into the bathing pools to cool off.

He'd intended to go back to his office to try to work. But he hadn't been able to take his mind off of Saidrene. Instead, picked up a piece of wood and a knife and done a little bit of carving. Now he brought the little flower he'd made with him to her weyr and knocked on the door.

"Saidrene? I hope I'm not unwelcome," K'ran said when he opened it and came in.

Her countenance visibly brightened at the sight of the bronzerider. "Of course you're not unwelcome," she said, even though she thought he was probably right in wondering, after the way she had behaved last night. "I wasn't sure where you might be after the flight." If he might be with a flightmoth, perhaps.

"In my weyr," he said. "I carved you something. Uh...can I sit?" he asked.

In his weyr, alone? She didn't think she had the right to ask. "Yes, please," she gestured beside of her, scooting her basket of food out of the way as she looked eagerly to see what he had carved.

He extended it to her after he sat down. "It's just a flower, but I hope you like it."

Saidrene turned the wooden flower over in her fingers, marveling at the craftsmanship. "It's beautiful, K'ran." No one had ever made her anything before. She curled her fingers around the gift, pressing it into the flesh of her palm. "I'm sorry about last night."

"About not wanting me to stay over for dinner? I shouldn't have invited myself," he said. "Did you wind up finishing the food?"

She shook her head, wondering if he had a mad or begrudging bone in his body. "I was rude and should have been grateful that you came and that you brought food. I wasn't. So let me apologize." Saidrene insisted, before tacking on, "And of course I finished the food." She hadn't been able to leave a plate empty for the last fortnight.

"You were having a terrible birthingday between what happened with your friends and being proddy," he said. "It's okay."

The greenrider's head tilted to the side, her smile frozen in place. "Proddy?" she said the word as if she must have misheard him. Had he also said it was "okay," as if she needed his permission to feel pissed off of the complete defection of the two people she had thought closest to her?

"It sounds like it was a very emotional day," he amended, quickly, realizing from her expression. "With Ashareth so close to rising and all it can't have helped."

"I supposed it didn't," she said. "It would have been nice if Rogueth had caught Ashareth."

"We tried our best," he said. "I wished for it, but his wing, still... he hasn't chased since the goldflight and I suppose it's not quite up to it."

"What about you?" Saidrene asked, eyebrow arched suggestively. "Are you up to it?"

"My performance hasn't been affected. Are you looking to test it?"

The greenrider slid into his lap with a grin. "Hm, yes, I believe I'll be able to see if everything is in working order."

He reached a hand up to tangle his fingers through her hair, and brought the other one around to rest at the small of her back, balancing her, as he drew her in for a kiss. "We can find out."

The promise in his voice and the touch of his lips sent a shiver of anticipation down her spine. The flight had been nice, but this was really the kind of release she wanted, and this was exactly the person that she wanted it with.
