Faryn had just finished his Candidate lessons for the day. He was tired he
had some reading to do, but that wasn't going to stop him from going outside
and relaxing. Smoke decided to tag along and spend some time with his
master. "So Smoke you want to come outside and play do you?" He asked the
feline as it purred walking next to him and some times the grey and black
feline would run up ahead of his pet and stand there wiggling his tail
waiting to make sure his pet was coming in the direction he'd run to.

"I am sorry my boy I am not as fast as you are." Faryn said to Smoke who
purred happily at him. As the pair arrived at a spot they figured was out
of the way of the dragons and their riders, and perhaps any others Faryn set
down the blanket he'd brought with him to sit on so he could work on reading
the lessons he needed to do for his healer lessons and for his candidate
lessons. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the small ball for Smoke
to play with. He then tossed the ball lightly but enough to send the
feline chasing the ball. As he sat there watching Smoke for a tick he
thought back to his father, and wondered how he was doing at the hold
knowing that Faryn was at the Weyr. He was probably in some meeting or
other at the moment and shook his head happy that he'd felt the call to be a
healer as he just couldn't picture himself doing meetings all day or copying
records for the Steward all day long.

Yes being a healer was hard work and it was lots of learning, but in his
mind he loved it as he got to help others, and make them feel good when they
were hurting. To him that was more important than sitting in meetings.
Also, as a Healer he had time to practice his bow hunting which he loved to
do, and he had time to work out. Yes healers had rotating schedules and
were all required during drills, and when Thread fell, but it also gave him
time to do other things like studying for his Candidacy, and his hopes of
Impressing. He tossed the ball for Smoke again and wondered what his
father would say if he showed up at the Hold riding on a bronze dragon. His
father would be so proud of him, and he hoped that what would happen, but he
knew he had to Impress first. He opened his book and started to read and go
over his corresponding notes about the Weyr and ranks, and their shoulder
knots so he knew whom it was he was talking to when addressing one whether
in the infirmary or just in general.

Faryn smiled at the thought of his father showing up at the Weyr and the two
just walking together and talking about life, and the fun they'd had when
Faryn was younger. He tossed the ball again, and smiled when he noticed
that Smoke started to walk after the ball and not run. "Getting tired are
you boy?" He asked the feline who slowly walked back towards his master and
laid down on the blanket next to his master. Smoke started to clean himself
as he purred happily enjoying the warm sun. Faryn couldn't help but giggle
at Smokes' antics. He was amazed at how happy the feline tended to make
him, and was a bit sad that he'd had to wait to come to the Weyr before he'd
been allowed to get a pet. Once Smoke settled down Faryn smiled and
slightly shook his head. He then started to read his work he needed to get
done before evening meal. He had the evening shift, so that meant that
after dinner he had to report to the Infirmary so he needed to get as much
work done now as he could.
