Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 6 of Turn 9
It may have been turns, but Jeyme's birthingday hadn't been forgotten. With careful consideration, a long narrow box was given to Dheymin, tied and secured with a long, embroidered ribbon. The little boy was carefully instructed not to open it, that it was a surprise, and to give it to his mother that very evening.
"Mama!" Dheymin could barely contain his excitement as he held the box in both of his hands and raced to her weyr ahead of his foster mother.
"Hey you," Jeyme grinned and swung Dheymin up into her arms. She rained kisses down on his cheeks while he giggled. "Thanks for bringing him," she said to the foster mother, who smiled and waved before leaving.
"What's in the box, bud?" she asked, sitting her son down and realizing that he was hugging a box to his chest.
"It's for you," Dheymin extended it to her proudly.
The greenrider's eyebrows rose in surprise as she examined the nice ribbon that had been tied around the box. Sliding the bow off, Jeyme opened the parcel and immediately smiled as she found a note lying on top of a pair of wooden knitting needles. "Happy Birthingday," had been scrawled on the note, and while there was no signature, Jeyme recognized the handwriting immediately. After all, how many times had she interrupted him while he'd been trying to complete hidework. She remembered sitting in his lap and distracting him from the work that he'd been trying to complete.... Those had been good times.
Jeyme took the needles in her hands, admiring the sleek finish of the wood, and the detailed dragons heads that were carved onto the ends. Not only was the gift beautiful, but thoughtful, and it touched her that he even remembered.
"Will you be okay with Quinneth for a second while Mama runs an errand?" she asked Dheymin
"I'm a big boy," Dheymin said, puffing out his chest and putting on a serious face that made him look like a miniature D'hol.
}:Send him in here,:{ Quinneth said, eyes whirling playfully as the boy settled in between her folded talons. }:Yumath's is in his office.:{
Jeyme left the weyr, making her way quickly to the Wingleader's office and knocking before pushing the door open. "You got a second?"
D'hol looked up at the knock, setting down the hide he had been writing on. His brows rose at her appearance, but he gestured her in. "Yes, a few. Come in."
Moving around his desk, Jeyme bent and dropped a kiss to the bronzerider's cheek. "Thank you for the birthingday gift."
He blinked at the kiss, but his lips curled up in response. "You're welcome. I hope you liked it."
"I loved it. I've never had knitting needles so nice." She leaned her hip against the corner of his desk and crossed her arms over her chest. "Is this your way of telling me you'd like another scarf?" she cocked her eyebrow in a teasing manner.
There was a low chuckle, but he shook his head. "No. I still have the first one, but thanks for the offer." He had wanted to give her something pleasant that she could remember him by, something untouched by their past. "Perhaps Dheymin would."
Jeyme shared his chuckle. "The last time I made Dheymin something he had it unraveled by the end of the day. I'm not sure if that speaks to how well he is able to destroy something, or how poorly it was made." She grinned.
"Most likely it's based on how quickly he can destroy something. He is at that age." He pushed back from his desk and leaned back in his chair. "I'm sure you can find yarn that's suitable. Maybe canvas or made from wherhide. That might hold up."
"Oh, I hadn't considered that." Jeyme said, pushing her hair behind her ear. She glanced around his office. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt."
"You've never worried about that before." A wry smirk lifted his mouth, but he shrugged. "But you didn't. I was about to leave and go take a much needed bath." He rose, stacking the hides neatly. "I'm glad you liked your gift. I hoped you would." He walked around her. "Have a good night."
She smiled at the good memories his comment evoked. "You too, D'hol."
