Description: K'lvin and Riveenata spend more time together after Panitath's flight.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 20 of Turn 9
"Sorry for that awkward visit by your weyr the other night," K'lvin
said as water lapped around them in the bathing pool. "I don't think I
ever got to apologize for all of that," he said as he passed Riveenata
the basket of sweetsand.
She took some to begin scrubbing at her arms. "You wanted to
apologize?" She asked.
"I should have had Xmrenth speak to Savith and see if you were free. I
didn't realize you had someone over," he explained, working the soap
to a lather and spreading it across his chest and shoulders.
"It's not like you interrupted too much. T'kala was over to gossip and
have me look at a bruise. Since being a dragon rider and a Healer both
gives me a good perspective on what's just annoying," she explained.
Over to gossip? That made K'lvin feel even more embarrassed, but he
shoved it aside in favor of lathering up his hair. "Well, then I take
the apology back." He grinned and then ducked beneath the water to
rinse.
She laughed. "It's very nice of you to think to. You know I don't mind
you dropping by."
"Maybe I will drop by more," he said, smoothing his wet hair back from
his face. "Or you could come by my weyr, I'm usually there." It was an
open invitation and K'lvin didn't want to try to read too much into
it.
"I'd like to. I miss the board and card games."
He hadn't really been thinking about games, or at least, not those kinds
of games. "Well, if you miss losing, I'm up to winning any time."
"You have experience in winning, I know," she said with a laugh.
Riveenata has meant in games but as soon as she said it she thought of
flights.
K'lvin grinned, he was also thinking of flights. "You want to get out
of here and grab something to eat?"
She sunk into the water deeper to free some lather, then watched it
float away. "A meal sounds good. I could eat a whole heardbeast..."
-
The Dining Cavern was bustling with people, and even though the gold
flight had taken place earlier in the day, there was still a charged
buzz of electricity among those gathered to eat.
"Do you want to find us somewhere to sit and I'll grab some food?"
"I'll do that," she said. it took her a few moments, but eventually,
she found it - a small table off to the side where they could sit
without being crowded. When K'lvin arrived, she smiled up. "What were
they serving?"
"Well they were fresh out of whole heardbeasts," he grinned, recalling
her wish from earlier. "But they did have several choice pieces of
fish, rivergrains and veggies." Which was what he typically had to eat
as a part of his post-heartattack diet.
"Sounds good to me," she said. As a Healer, she knew those foods wre
both helthy and tasty when prepared well, and the Dolphin Cove staff
were good at it. "I must admit, if I ever didn't live along the coast,
I'd miss fish."
For some reason her comment made him think of Bahji and the night he'd
taken her away from River Bluff to a little seaside tavern where
they'd eaten fish and then stargazed with him describing to her the
constellations since she could only catch glimpses of them from
Bursts' mental images.
"It is one of my favorites," he agreed.
She took the plate he sat down and began to dig in. "So is missing
fish why you came here instead of going somewhere else? I mean, Vista
Point is also coastal. I wouldn't have wanted to do Dragonsfall, it's
cold and inland. Same with Dream's End. But aren't you from there?"
"I actually came here just because I knew it's where most of my Wing
might end up and I wanted to be here for them. I didn't have solid
plans to stay, but then I had the heart attack and couldn't leave."
Although he supposed that he would be clear for it now. There wasn't a
reason to leave though since both of his daughters were at Dolphin
Cove and had settled in with their foster mother and other weyrbrats.
"We came here because my father has cousins here, otherwise we might
have wound up somewhere else. Selfishly, I'm glad you stayed here. The
only good thing about screwing up and being punished was getting to
know you." She gave him a bright smile.
K'lvin grinned a little, which he found himself doing a lot more
lately, especially around Riveenata, "Yeah, I'm glad you got into
trouble. It turned out to be a good thing. It's hard to think I
wouldn't really know you if that hadn't happened."
"I didn't think anything good would come of it, right after it
happened," she admitted. "I've never been a rule-breaker or in trouble
before, it was pretty crushing. But I suppose there's truth in that
saying that not all cracked eggs are bad, some hatch dragons."
As they continued talking and finished their plates, K'lvin found
himself reluctant to leave her, the same way they'd been earlier in
the flight room. "Is it okay if I walk you back to your weyr?" he
asked.
Riveenata was surprised by the question. Not unpleasantly, but she
hadn't expected back. "You want to hike all that way?" she asked
lightly, a sparkle in her eyes. "Or would Xmrenth give me a lift so
Savith doesn't have to wake up?"
"I have walked the entire way there before," he pointed out,
struggling to keep a smile off his face, "and then regretted it.
Xmrenth wouldn't mind taking us."
"Let's give your poor heart a break and prevail on poor Xmrenth
instead," she said, knowing how it would sound. If he walked her up to
the weyr, maybe he'd just leave her at the door. But somehow it seemed
more intimate to get a ride up - to have Xmrenth rest on her ledge by
Savith, it was easy to him to slip into her weyr behind her that way
and...
Maybe she was over-thinking what he was thinking.
"Shall we then?" he extended his hand to her, even as Xmrenth passed him an image of the Weyrbowl as he landed. The bronze seemed to have recovered from his earlier attempt at catching Panitath, his eyes were a contented blue and he greeted Riveenata with a low warble.
The greenrider reached out and scritched at Xmrenth's side. "Hi there. Don't worry, you're still Savith's favorite."
The tip of the bronze's tail flicked, revealing his amusement.
"After you," K'lvin said as Xmrenth crouched for them to mount. Once Riveenata was settled he leaped smoothly into place behind her, one hand curling naturally around her hip.
She enjoyed the feeling of his hands on her hip as they took the
flight up. Going adragonback over the weyrrim and down to the ocean
weyrs was always a good time. It felt very different on a larger
bronze than on small, agile Savith; much smoother. She enjoyed the
sensation of the flight and was a little disappointed when it ended.
Savith stirred only enough to shift over and give Xmrenth room to
land, curling her tail around the bronze's back limbs as soon as he
did.
"Good flying, thank you for the lift. He's not as affected by the wind
currents," she remarked.
"The benefits of being heavier," K'lvin agreed, although he really hadn't been thinking much about how Xmrenth was flying as they'd made their way to Riveenata's weyr. It felt odd to part from her now, because he was afraid that once they were separated they would lose whatever "this" had been. At the same time, he felt as though he had taken up most of her day and perhaps she wanted some time alone now and...
She was loathe to immediately slide down, and turned around a little awkwardly and kissed his cheek. "K'lvin?"
"Yes?" He was looking into her eyes.
She licked her lips as the nerves hit, but went forward anyway. "You
can come in, if you want."
That settled the debate that had been warring inside him. "After you, milady."
She slipped off Xmrenth, touching the bronze's flank again, and
stepped backward to the door into the inner weyr to give K'lvin room
to descend. "So, were you thinking of beating me at cards?" she teased.
K'lvin descended Xmrenth's flank in single agile motion, evidence of the many times he had done so. "Only if those cards are the key to taking your clothes off," he said with a slightly predatorial gleam in his eyes.
"They could be if you want. Each losing hand loses another piece."
"I'll let you deal," the bronzerider smiled.
"Let's hope I can at least get you out of a couple items before I'm
entirely gone." She winked at him and led the way inside.
