Saibra

K'yne's forceful footsteps echoed in the stone hallway; sharp, staccato taps that reverberated around him. He didn't knock or ask he simply threw open Saibra's office door, slammed it shut behind himself, and then braced both of his hands on the Weyrwoman's desk as he stared down into her startled blue eyes.

"How could you?" he spat, thinking it might possibly be the angriest with her he had ever been, and that was saying a lot as they had shared plenty of fights over the Turns.

Saibra, who after knowing K'yne for well over twenty Turns, merely rocked back in her chair and laid her stylus on the well-polished desktop. "Tell me what's on your mind, K'yne."

}:My deepest, deepest apologies dear Chioneth.:{ Arinoth crooned to the Queen, who was still on the Sands with her current clutch. He hated when his rider was angry with the Weyrwoman.

"You feckin' know what's on my mind, Saibra!" The brownrider didn't have to shout, the low, terse tone, spoken through gritted teeth said volumes.

She continued to look at him placidly for a moment longer, before sighing and throwing her hands up, "It wasn't my place to say anything, K'yne."

His eyebrows shot into his hair and then his hand swept the papers on her desk into the floor, "That's wherdung and you know it! I deserved to know!"

**Well that's going to be a mess to clean up,** she thought as she watched her pot of ink seeping onto the floor.

"K'yne," she looked back up at him, still calm. Saibra knew the man about as well as she knew anyone, and even though he was huffing and puffing, she also knew he would never lay a hand on her. "I am Erivana's Wingleader and Weyrwoman first. I couldn't tell you that she was pregnant with your baby, that would have been a breach of confidentiality as her Wingleader."

K'yne threw himself down into a chair so hard the wooden feet screeched on the stone floor. "Saibra," he growled her name like a curse.

"Look, I really wanted to tell you," she said leaning forward. "When Erivana told me that you were the flight rider and assuredly the father of the baby, I wanted to tell you. I know how much being a father means to you, K'yne. I encouraged her to talk to you immediately before any decisions were made, I swear on Chioneth."

The brownrider covered his eyes with a hand that trembled slightly. "It's just... Why is this happening now? With someone I don't even know? I've just found out about J'ackt, it seems, my son who I never got to raise, who Ocktima kept from me. The kid can barely stand to look at me. And now, some random greenrider, so shy she called me 'sir' in the flightroom, is carrying my baby?"

"Sometimes the unexpected things in life turn out to be for the best," she offered softly, studying his angular face as his hand lowered. Saibra cocked her head to the side, "Wait. Back up. She called you 'sir'?"

The corners of K'yne's mouth twitched as he fought a smile at the memory, "Yes. _Sir_. I wasn't sure whether to feel older than Farath or charmed."

Saibra chuckled, "She's a sweet girl."

"Aye, she seemed like it." K'yne agreed, releasing an exhale and with it the rest of his temper.

"What did you say to her when she told you?" she asked.

"I told her that I would respect whatever decision she made, but that if she decided to keep the child I would be involved in helping her throughout the pregnancy and with the raising." K'yne's eyes caught on the strewn papers on the floor and the spilled pot of ink.

"I apologize for the mess," he said meekly.

Saibra leaned back with a smirk, "I'm used to it when it comes to the men of your family. K'fel and I had a row one evening and he threw all of our bedding out into the weyrcouch."

K'yne laughed, imagining that his hot-headed older brother had done just that, "And what did you do in return?"

"I made him sleep out there, of course!" she laughed.
