Characters: A'kades, K'lvin
Description: A'kades and K'lvin get together for their weekly dragonpoker and gossip.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 24 of Turn 9

}:My rider is on his way over,:{ Volaith helpfully informed Xmrenth.

The bronze dragon felt like he had done this many times before, which
he had, since their riders had a standing social time. He was
particularly glad that his rider was visiting Xmrenth's today. All
day, his rider's mind had been full of nerves, many thoughts about his
hatchling and his dragon. The bronze hoped his rider spending time
with another rider would make that better.

A'kades showed up at K'lvin's weyr bearing his usual gifts:
sandwiches, wine, and a deck of cards. Added to the package was a
flask of hard liquor.

"On time as usual," K'lvin said just as he'd finished cleaning off his
table so that they could eat and have a hand of cards.

"That's me. Mr. Punctual," A'kades said helpfully. "I'm glad game night
is tonight. Volaith was yelling at me to get out my weyr."

"It's sad when your own dragon is kicking you out," K'lvin ribbed.

"Does Xmrenth ever do that to you?"

"More than I'd like to admit," K'lvin took a seat and opened up his
sandwich. "He's been pushing me out though by chasing every green that
rises. I've had so many cold baths I'm afraid something important might
fall off."

A'kades laughed. "No successes, then?" He wouldn't ask 'no moths' - he
understood that, he hadn't taken one for a greenflight since Lenala's
death, his only encounter since had been the single flight he'd won.

"He's won a couple, and I've taken a couple of flightmoths, but mostly
that's just more hassle than I want to deal with it and this point."

K'lvin lifted his shoulders, knowing that A'kades would understand, they
were in similar situations having both lost someone they cared about at
River Bluff. "What about you? Is Volaith getting to know all the greens
in the Weyr before he chases Panitath or Riyanth?"

"Interestingly, he's only chased River Bluff greens," he said.

"That is interesting," K'lvin said. Xmrenth had been all over the place,
probably because the bronze was eager to make up for the time that
K'lvin had been on restrictions from the healers. The bronzerider
finished off his sandwich, thinking it had tasted amazing. On his
healer-prescribed diet, things like what he'd just eaten were only to be
eaten in limitation, which he tried to abide by.

"I hope you brought that flask to share," he said.

"I absolutely did, I shouldn't have it all on my own." He sighed.

"Well, how's V'rel? Where are they at now in Weyrlinghood?" K'lvin
asked, knowing that had been a concern and one of the reasons A'kades
had moved to Dolphin Cove.

"They're at /betweening/ now. He just moved into his own weyr." He
sighed, knowing K'lvin would understand his nerves.

K'lvin did understand, as a Wingleader, as a father himself, and as a
friend. "Got any Wingleaders looking at him yet?" K'lvin had always
enjoyed scoping out prospects early.

"I'd have N'vanik looking if it wouldn't be improper. He said he doesn't
want to be in D'hol's wing, but K'ran would be fair enough."

"It might be weird having his dad as his Wingsecond," K'lvin pointed
out. "D'hol has a tough exterior, well and an interior if I'm honest,
but his Wing always performs well, I'm sure V'rel would be fine there,
or with K'ran."

"I wouldn't feel comfortable with him in my wing, I'd worry too much,
even if N'vanik would let me do it."

K'lvin understood that completely. "Have you convinced Jadirah to move
here yet? Or is she staying at Dragonsfall?"

"Staying at Dragonsfall. She's bonded with the Weyrwoman there. And
truth be told I think she has a crush on the Weyrhealer."

"Well good for her, she couldn't follow you around forever." K'lvin
knew A'kades could take the teasing.

"Better making her own life than mooning over me," he agreed. "Though
I'd thought maybe one of the children would have wanted the beach
life."

"Some people like the cold and snow. I know I used to, but I'm finding
as time passes I enjoy the warmth and sunshine more."

"It's certainly a novelty for then, maybe I'll see how it is the next
Turn if they've changed their mind." The exposure to the snow might do
that.

K'lvin took the deck of cards and shuffled them effortlessly between
his fingers, "Queens are wild," he said as he began dealing out the
cards.

"They sure are," A'kades quipped, before picking up his cards and
settling in to play.
