J'ackt slide a hand lightly across the the leather wrapped grip, then
tested the weight of the weapon with an experienced hand. He frowned
in concentration as he swung the sword slowly with a practiced hand,
the frown becoming a smile as the balanced blade swept through the
air. The gleam on the metal caught the light from the weyr entrance
and reflected against the stone wall.
}: I still don't know why you wanted it. :{ Zith observed, preening a
claw as he watched.
"The one I had wasn't as well balanced and I'm tired of using those
bloody wooden practice ones. I was losing my edge."
}: You don't really need it. :{ Zith replied, settling his massive
head on his foreclaws as his eyes followed his rider through his
series of stances.
"Yes, I do."
}: Not really. You can't kill Thread with it. And Loseth's and
Panitath's don't want you to poke people with one of those. You'd get
in trouble. :{
"That's a bit of an understatement." J'ackt snorted. He wondered if he
would be able to pry out the boot that would end up in his arse if
that occurred.
}: That was a disgusting picture.:{ Zith's nose wrinkled.
There was a snort of amusement. "Deal with it." J'ackt stopped his
forms and slid his hand with pride over the length of the blade. It
was well balanced, feeling like an extension of his arm. As well it
should be, he had saved and scrimped for it for months. It was a
simple blade, with no ornamentation, but the quality of the
craftsmanship was ideal. He had loved it instantly.
}: Stumpy likes the...scabbard. :{ Zith had to search his rider's mind
for the proper word.
"What?" J'ackt blinked and turned, only to see his canine slipping
into the weyr, dragging a slobbery piece of leather behind him.
"Shaffit! Drop it!" The rumble of amusement from the bronze echoed
through the chamber as J'ackt chased after the canine. "No chew!
Shaffit, give it!" The amusement increased as the unexpected game of
tug of war commenced, the three-legged canine eager to keep the
leather prize he had claimed.
J'ackt won, but the slobbering damage had been done. J'ackt sighed,
scolding the canine, but to little effect. Stumpy thumped his tail, a
canine grin splitting his wide face as J'ackt held up the dripping
mess of leather. He set the scabbard on the table and eyed the canine.
"You're as bad as a flit." Stumpy's tail evidently agreed and as
J'ackt turned on his heel to go back to practicing, he watched. T
The moment that J'ackt was out of sight, Stumpy lifted on his hind
legs and snagged the end of the scabbard and quietly dragged it to his
bed. This time Zith said nothing and simply waited with eager
amusement.
