Saibra's hands flexed over her taut belly, her eyes following the
curve until her hands disappeared beneath the firm swell. She hadn't
counted on becoming so large so quickly, at least, she hadn't
remembered it being that way with Kaibren.
**Well, each pregnancy is different,** she told herself, and that had
been over ten Turns ago.
"I think it's safe to start thinking of names, don't you?" she said,
looking up as her weyrmate left their private bathing pool, hair still
wet from his bath.
R'enh smiled at the lovely vision seated with her hands cradling her
belly. He'd always thought Saibra a beautiful woman but it amazed him
how much more beautiful she was while pregnant with his child. "Sure,"
he said and walked toward his chest to grab fresh clothing. "What are
you thinking? Boy or girl?"
Saibra shook her head, blue eyes warm as she watched the bronzerider,
"I honestly don't know. Some days I think girl and some days boy. I am
swelling like I did with Saidrene but carrying in the hips like I did
with Kaibren."
"Then we'll have to be prepared either way," he said as he tossed a
shirt over his head. "My full name before Impression was Rolenh. So
there are some extra letters to use if you like." He walked over to
sit down next to her.
"Writing it down helps me think," she said as she spelled out his name
on one side of the paper and her name on the others. "Let's see there
could be... Solenh or Railen for a boy, or..." Saibra's brow furrowed
as she thought. "Rainse or Salenha for a girl name.... What else do
you see?"
"I like those," he nodded. "I didn't know about Zorenh until he was
two turns so didn't get any input. Brarenh or Sairol could also work,"
he looked the question at her.
Saibra wrote down the name suggestions, "Well, with the name Zorenh,
it doesn't seem as if she wanted to hide who the father was," she
grinned. It always brought up interesting gossip when a man's name
showed up in a new baby's name around the Weyr. "How about... Rhenai,
for a girl, and Senhre for a boy?" She nibbled on the end of her
writing tool.
"Yeah," he smiled. "But I wasn't there and didn't keep contact, so I
didn't find out at the time. I like Senhre,"
The Weyrwoman beamed and set the list aside, "Well, that's a good
start to give us some options."
"That's a very good start," he smiled. "How are your feet feeling
tonight," he asked knowing she was beginning to get uncomfortable at
times.
"They're a little puffy," she admitted, wiggling her toes, "but not as
bad as yesterday. I've tried to stay off them a bit more today."
He smiled and reached over to pull her feet into his lap. "Want me to
rub them for you?"
"Is that really a question?" she grinned, surrendering her feet to his
care immediately. "How is it going with K'yne and the Wing?"
He began to use his thumbs and fingers to massage the minor swelling
out of her feet. "Pretty good I think. He's smart and thinks about the
best way to position our riders. I can't say we're the best of friends
but that might come in time. I'm pretty sure he'd deck me if he
thought you were unhappy," he winked and grinned at her. "So you tell
me if I press too hard alright?
"Too hard? It feels divine," Saibra said, reclining her head back to
enjoy the moment. "And you're right, about K'yne, he probably would.
That's just... how he's wired," she waved her hand, a touch of
exasperation in her voice. "I think he's been more preoccupied lately
with finding out he's actually been a father for the past nineteen
Turns and didn't know."
"Yeah, well that would knock anyone flat," he grinned. "Especially if
it was J'ackt. That boy is a needlethorn bush... with attitude."
Saibra brought her head back up to look at R'enh, "Right? I mean, out
of all the fatherless kids out there, it couldn't have been some sweet
soul. No, it had to be a kid who already has the _biggest_ chip on his
shoulder." She shook her head. "I'm just glad J'ackt is at Dolphin
Cove and in N'vanik and Cyradis' hair and not here in the same Weyr as
K'yne."
Being as honest as they had with each other over the last Turn, R'enh
knew about many of Saibra's partners before they'd become Weyrmates.
He'd been as honest as possible with her too. So, he just smiled and
said, "me too."
