"You are utterly adorable." A rich chuckle followed a splutter as
footfalls came closer to Cyradis' doorwayl. "Love the blush too. Are
you sure you're not busy later? "
There was a squeak of uncertainty as footfalls stopped and audible
stuttering. "I'm not..uh..I mean..."
"It's okay. Do you have a sister?" The mischievous glee in the voice
was unmistakable.
"Wha? Yeah but...no!" There was a knock and before Cyradis could
answer, a Candidate thrust his head in, beat red from embarrassment.
"Weyrwoman, a rider is here to see you."
Hearing the voices outside Cyradis couldn't help the chuckle and shake
of her head. "Send him in," she said.
Being hurried in, T'sin was laughing as the door nearly slammed behind
him. He turned to Cyradis, transfer hides in hand, and stopped, tilting
his head at her. His grin widened even further, becoming devilish.
"Weyrwoman, please tell me that you are fine with inter-wing
fraternization."
"Welcome rider," she said holding out her hand for the hides he
carried. "We always encourage fraternization," she grinned.
"Just what I love to hear." Before he handed her the hides, he took
her hand and kissed the knuckles with a wink. "T'sin of blue Biveth,
at your mercy for your Wingthird." He gave a elaborate bow as he
placed the hides in her hand.
"Have a seat," she waved at the chair across from her. "Tell me a
little about yourself."
T'sin took the proffered seat and crossed his leg over the other,
relaxed. " Well, how long do you have? I could tell you all the rumors
about me..." he paused, "...and most of them are probably true, though
I certainly did not sleep with three Weyrleaders." He held up a hand.
"Not for lack of trying, but I just can't seem to get past that bronze
wall." He gave a dramatic sigh, then grinned with a wink. "But I have
heard you have some absolutely scrumptious Wingleaders and Wingseconds
here. I may get my chance."
Then he gestured at the hides he had handed her, his smile still
evident, but his expression was more serious. "But, I can tell you
that my charming self ends once drills and Falls begin. I have no
desire to have anyone end up in the infirmary with scores and I don't
like hearing keening."
"I can understand that," she felt the same way about keening. Then she
shrugged and lifted a shoulder. "I've slept with several Weyrleaders,
and Wingleaders," She waved a hand in the air. "It's not a
disqualifier. You just don't have the right... plumbing."
"Don't remind me." He chuckled. "You lucky thing you." He winked. "So,
what will your expectations of me be? Every leader is different, so
it's good to know before hand."
She half smiled and nodded. "Have you flow Queens wing in the past
other than as an injured rider?"
"No, I've always been in the high altitude wings. I busted my knee
once, though, and was in the queens wing for two months at Vista
Point."
"At the point where you flew with queens you were likely toward the
back in the midst of a six or nine where there were several other
riders to cover you." She nodded toward on of her formation diagrams
on the wall. "As you healed you were moved up closer to the front and
outside. Right?"
He thought for a moment, then nodded. "Believe so. It's been a while
since that happened. I was just a Turn out of being a weyrling."
She nodded. "So I need you to help coordinate the protection of
injured riders who are starting to fly with the wing. Make sure
they're really getting into condition to return to the upper wings."
He mused on that, then nodded. "Understood. Make sure they're not
straining themselves, and getting re-conditioned." He tapped the
slight cleft in his chin as he thought. "Constant changes in the wing
will certainly make things interesting."
"That it does, and we have to make it appear effortless. The injured
can't know they're being protected by the riders around them. Then
they'll rise to the best of their efforts."
"A challenge." A wide grin split his face. "I do love a challenge."
"Then we'll work well together," she smiled back.
