It seemed to take forever to get Santhiath settled down to the
Weyrling barracks and then there was the Hatching Fest to prepare for
and the girl who Santhiath had walked over to check for.
Dessa's mother stopped by, brought some things Dessa had left behind
when she was Searched (mostly clothes, like the gather gown she was
now wearing) and to give her set of jewelry. They had been meant for
her wedding, Elliwa had told her, but since that was not out of
question, they were the Impression gift instead. Dessa had been very
close to breaking down to tears at that moment and to admit how much
she really loved her mother.
When she entered the dining Cavern, she was fashionable late. She also
looked the part of Goldrider and member of Blood. The new knots seemed
to weight a ton. She was instantly assaulted yet another round of
congratulaters and well-wishers.
When the dancing begun, Lord Corowal claimed the first dance and then
she danced with her father.
All the time she scanned the crowd for her friends. She knew both
Tyselin and Vatirel had Impressed the blues but hadn't had a change to
talk to them. When she did spot Tyselin, nay, T'lin, she skirted
around a bronzerider who wanted a dance and managed to reach him near
the refreshment's table. "Hi, there and congratulations," she greeted.
"Dessa!" He pulled her into a hug. "Congratulations to you too! Wow, a
gold! And she's gorgeous." There had been too much going on for him to
meet the new queen but there was plenty of time for that later.
"Thank you. I would say your blue is very handsome but I've only seen
a glimpse of him," Dessa replied. "The three of us will be sharing
weyrlinghood, isn't that exciting?"
"Yes, it's wonderful. I can hardly believe it." T'lin was so full of
energy he had to let it out. "Would you care for a dance goldrider?"
He smiled and offered his arm.
"I'll be happy to dance with you, bluerider," Dessa replied with
playful curtsy and placed her hand on his arm.
"You're not going to be too fancy for us now that you're a goldrider,
are you?" T'lin teased as he led her to the dancing area.
"No, I'm not, I'm still me," Dessa replied. "And if it looks like it's
getting into my head, feel free to kick me in the shin," she grinned.
"If I did that, your dragon might eat me." They stepped into an open
spot among the dancers and T'lin moved to the beat of the lively song.
"True, so maybe that wasn't such a good idea," Dessa replied before
letting the music carry her away. She was fairly good dancer thanks to
her background.
T'lin was pleased at her skill. For a while he focused on the two of
them moving together and the music, but then he started to notice
people watching them. "Ohh, I think we're making the bronzeboys
jealous."
"That's good for them," Dessa grinned.
He smiled back. "Are you going to keep making them jealous?" Some of
the bronzeriders were only watching, but a few were glaring. T'lin's
new bluerider knots were prominent and he could practically hear them
thinking he shouldn't be dancing with "their" new goldrider.
"Probably," Dessa sounded slightly mischievious. "If they think they
know me based on my dragon's colour, they'll be in for a surprise."
He laughed. Dessa was such a delight. "I'd offer to dance with them
but something tells me that wouldn't make them happy."
"That would be a sight," Dessa replied.
"See now I'm tempted to do it just for the entertainment value."
"You're terrible, did you know that," Dessa laughed.
"Oh am I? Then I seem to be in good company." His eyes sparkled with amusement.
"Of course you are," Dessa replied. "I already feel sorry for the
weyrlingmaster."
"Me too. Although L'pin's an all right sort. He might survive us,"
T'lin said. "Not sure about the other two, though. We might make them
cry."
"Or Santhiath will, she already demanded bath from the Weyrleaders,"
Dessa replied.
"Oh no!" T'lin said with a laugh. "Did she really?"
"Pretty much. It was more implied than direct demand," Dessa grinned.
"So the demanding reputations of gold dragons is justified?"
Goldriders had a reputation of being aloof and somewhat demanding
themselves, but that didn't seem true in Dessa's case.
"It sure is," Dessa confirmed.
"Calaroth was demanding about food but he settled down after that. He
seems like a friendly sort." A dreamy look spread across his face as
T'lin thought of his new lifemate. "I hope our dragons get along."
"I hope that too," Dessa replied.
"Like rider, like dragon?" T'lin thought of their dragons growing up
together. "And V'rel's Rymeth too. All six of us getting along and
making the Weyrlingmaster cry."
"It will be fun," Dessa said.
