R'enh's arm tightened around the raven haired beauty curved against
him. "That was some hatching feast," he growled in her ear. He'd
missed her fiercely while they were apart though he always did that.
But now morning streaked light across the ceiling. Of course the
windows were small and sheltered but the same opening that held the
door from the outer ledges also held a few small windows. The light
was pink and orange and glowed along the ceiling.
He nuzzled her neck. "Wake up sleepyhead."
Saibra stretched, sighing softly before relaxing against R'enh. "Mmmm,
but I haven't slept this good in ages." It was true. Going to bed
alone and trying to sleep wasn't the same as going to sleep beside of
R'enh.
He chuckled and his hand slid down her side to caress a rounded cheek
and then on down her thigh. "Are you still sleepy?"
"I have been extra tired lately," she confessed, she blamed it on all
of the time she'd spent down at the Hatching Sands with Chioneth. She
rolled over into his arms so she could see him.
He became a little concerned. "Have you seen the healers?"
"No, I'm sure it's nothing serious. Probably nothing a little rest
won't fix. Or a vacation," her eyes lit at the prospect.
"Somewhere warm?" His blue eyes crinkled and he waggled his eyebrows
in one of his goofy moments.
"Anywhere with you." She answered, skim her fingers over his trim
torso. "I believe I'm beginning to really wake up, now."
"Oh good," he said and leaned against her so she could feel exactly
how awake he was.
Saibra suddenly froze, her blue eyes opening wider as she stared at
R'neh, "Wait a second. I've been incredibly tired, more than usual,
and my cycle is late... Very late." All of the facts seem to catch up
with her in that moment. Could she be pregnant again?
His brows folded together puzzled at first and then they flew open and
he smiled. "Do you think?" He hugged her closer.
"It's possible," she reasoned. She was late sometimes, but this was
even outside of her normal range. She'd been so busy with Chioneth she
really hadn't kept good track of her days.
"Oh baby," he crooned and his hand went to her abdomen. His eyes
glowed into hers. "How soon will you know for sure?"
Saibra did some mental calculations, "Probably another fortnight
before the healers would be able to tell me anything." She hesitated
to get excited, it was harder for her to conceive now than it had been
when she'd had Saidrene and Kaibren, because of the Turns of
/betweening/. "I'll be very careful," she added.
"You do that," he said and kissed her deeply.
The kiss drove out any of her other thoughts. Saibra returned his kiss
ardently. She only had a limited time with R'enh before he would go
back to Dolphin Cove, and she wanted to make sure that she took
advantage of every second they had together.
This time when he made love to her he took his time and made it
tender. He showered her with his love before they finally crashed into
the ceiling. He fell to the side and pulled her into his shoulder. "I
love you," he said and kissed her forehead
"I love you too," she murmured back with a smile. "When do you have to be back?"
"Soon," he said. He knew the time difference viscerally at this point
and it always pained him to leave. But he didn't have a choice. He had
his duties and he owned it to the Weyr. "I'm sorry," he said. "Let me
know when you find out for sure and be careful Saibra." He stroked her
arm.
Even though she'd watched him leave many times, it still brought that
feeling of deflation that couldn't be helped. "I will be," she
promised, "I'll have Chioneth speak to Mnoranth when I have found out
for sure."
"Thank you," he said. This wasn't by any means easy for him. He want
to stay, to go with her to the healers and find out whether or not
they were finally going to have the child they both wanted so much.
Truthfully, it was more and more difficult for him to leave and go
back to Dolphin cove. Not for the first time he wondered what would
have happened had they actually found this relationship while she'd
been at Dolphin cove. His arms tightened around her one more time
before he let go and sat up.
