Ravyan was Kaiafel's responsibility. He was his little brother and it was his job to take care of him, make sure he didn't get into too much trouble, make sure no one picked on him, and above all, make sure he came home to check in with Felke before he went off to play. Kaiafel had waited and waited for his little brother to come out of the Harper room, but he never came out. His teacher said he had left a long time ago. If that was true, then where was he?

Kaiafel and looked for him in all the places he could think of. He wasn't in the classrooms. He wasn't around the beach. He wasn't in the kitchens. Kaiafel stopped everyone he thought who might know Ravyan and asked, "Have you seen my brother?" No luck, and with each place ticked off his list, each shake of the head, he started to feel the panic rise.

**He's my responsibility! What would Ma say if I lost him?** What would Da say?

The last place he could think to look was maybe he went home to his mother. Knocking on the door he asked as soon as it opened, "I can't find Ravyan. Is he here?"

Aileyan had just come back from the drills and had barely time to change off her flight leathers. "Hi, Kaiafel. No, he's not here," she replied.

"Oh. Ok... Um..." Kaiafel bit his lip a moment, shifting from one foot to the other. He didn't want to tell her of his failure, but he was really getting scared now. Finally he blurted out, "I don't know where Ravyan is and no one has seen him. He didn't meet me after Harper classes like he's supposed to and I have looked for him everywhere and he's just gone!"

"Oh dear, that doesn't sound good. Have you checked his usual hiding places?" Aileyan asked, getting instantly worried. She also sent her flit to find Ravyan with mental command. The flit sent back a jubilant emotion of finding him but it was nothing useful, like location.

"I looked everywhere I could think of, but he isn't anywhere," Kaiafel said, relieved that she was not instantly angry at him like he was afraid she might be.

Aileyan was simply too worried to be angry. Besides, it wasn't really Kaiafel's fault, it was Ravyan who hadn't kept his schedule. "I'll help looking for him. If we split, we can cover more ground."

"Ok," he said, not sure where he hadn't looked yet. "Where should I go?"

"Have you checked the kitchens and dining cavern yet?" Aileyan asked. It wouldn't be first time for a little boy to sneak to get some goodies.

"It was the first place I checked," Kaiafel said, knowing that would be the first place _he_ would go.

"The beasthold?" she suggested.

"I guess I didn't look there. Or the Flight cots," Kaiafel conceded. "I can check those."

Aileyan nodded. She tried to think other places Ravyan would like to go. "I'll check the Hatching Cavern and dragon infirmary."

Kaiafel hurried of in the direction of the beasthold in a run, knowing full well that if anything happened to Ravyan it would be all his fault!

Aileyan hurried off towards the Hatching Cavern. Chioneth's eggs should hatch any day now, and they always facinated the weyrbrats. Last thing she wanted was to find out her son had been bothering the Senior Gold.
