Briata

Briata

Briata carried Nisha in her sling and led Brygel as she went into the
lower caverns searching for the Headwoman.

Getting directions a couple of times she finally found her way to
Chaysea's office and knocked.

"Come in," Chaysea said, although she didn't look up. Ever since River
Bluff had been declared inhabitable, Dolphin's Cove had received a
steady stream of transfers and the Headwoman and her staff had been
doing everything they could to house and accommodate people. At the
moment, Chaysea was bent over head first digging through a box of odds
and ends, fishing out things that could be useful to new arrivals.

"Ma'am," Briata said softly. "My werymate will be arriving here
tomorrow and I was hoping we could get into a weyr large enough for
him.

The Headwoman straightened, looking for the first time at the woman
and the two children with her. "Of course. Is your weyrmate a rider?"
She asked, stepping around the box to pull the map of weyrs on her
desk closer. Up on his perch, Company eyed the two children curiously,
emitting soft, questioning cheeps.

"Yes," she nodded. It wasn't entirely unpleasant to be unrecognized
and a Lady attitude wouldn't be proper around here so she just told
the truth. "He's a bronzerider and was Weyrdragonhealer at
Riverbluff."

That rang a bell. "Oh, you're Y'gel's weyrmate then?" Chaysea
remembered the bronzerider from the time he had spent at Dolphin Cove
with Lanniya's clutch.

"Are you looking for ground-level?" The Headwoman asked, glancing at
the children.

"Well, anything near the dragon infirmary," she said. "He'll need to
be close. if you have something," she smiled.

"Hmm," Chaysea ran her fingers along the map until she zeroed in one
the dragon infirmary. "Let's see what we have...." She tapped her
finger when she found an opening. "I've got something, it's not ground
floor, but it's only one staircase up."

"That should be fine," she nodded. "And thank you. Say do you have an
extra long bed, he's rather tall."

"I will have the staff look and see what we have in storage. There's
only standard furniture in our empty weyrs." Chaysea wasn't sure what
would be available with all of the new arrivals to accommodate, but
they would do their best to meet individual needs. "Will your children
be needing a foster mother, or do you take care of them?"

"Oh I take care of them," she smiled. "Brigel is mine and Y'gel's but
Nisha here is actually N'vanik's daughter by Rhosyn. I am her foster
mother."

Nisha obliged them with a gurgle and patted her hands together "dada."

Chaysea smiled at the little girl, she had heard about N'vanik's
daughter that he went to visit at River Bluff. "How sweet, I am sure
he will be pleased to have her close by now."

"He is," she smiled back. "He saved us you know? We were on the side
of a cliff with no way up and the water rising. He came just in the
nick of time."

"How heroic. That's just part of why so many women around here are
always swooning after him." Chaysea knew the other part was his good
looks and his bronze dragon.

Briata chuckled. "Oh I can imagine." Not that she felt that way. She
felt more married to Y'gel than she ever had to her husband. Of course
she'd lost her first love but she was very happy in her life. A chirp
from the rafters and she smiled. "Oh and I should also let you know
there is Jewel."

At the mention of her name the little gold floated down to perch on
her person's chair. She knew better than to get within grabbing
distance of Nisheyl.

Company was instantly alert. ~~My queen! My queen!~~ His eyes whirled
with excitement as he dove down to Chaysea's shoulder to get a closer
look at the gold.

"Company," Chaysea said in a scolding tone, but she was having trouble
hiding her smile at his reaction to Jewel.

Briata chuckled. "She has that effect."

Jewel preened at the adoration then thought about sun and fish.
Tilting her head at the little bronze as if to invite him to show her
where such things could be found.

"I'll probably need a change of clothes at least until I can make
something," she said. "I'm a weaver so if I can find them I can
contribute that way as well."

"I can get you a few sets of clothes. They may need some tailoring but
if you're a weaver that shouldn't be a problem." Chaysea assured her.
"I've got some childrens clothing as well. We raided the creche just
yesterday for anything that wasn't being used."

"Thank you very much, one or two should be enough to begin." She
smiled thinking that Chaysea was quite reasonable over the whole
situation. "Can you show me the Weyr?"

Chaysea gave a nod, her eyes looking around until they landed on her
keys, "Absolutely. I've been in this office all morning, it would be
nice to take a walk." Company wrapped his tail around Chaysea's bicep
for stability as she ushered Briata into the hallway and locked her
office door.

"Great," Briata smiled and followed Chaysea carrying one and leading
the other child.
