Description: Kapera and Cyradis have a difference of opinion or is it maturity?
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 15 of Turn 8
Kapera really, _really_ did not want to go talk to Cyradis about what
the Weyrwoman had seen in D'hol's office. The way the other goldrider
had turned and left made her nervous - something about her bearing
there had not been good. She didn't want to drop by the other woman's
office or weyr and find her furious.
Maybe she could just...not talk to her. They could pretend that nobody
had seen anything. Like nothing had changed. It had worked for two
days, but that wasn't going to work for the rest of the month, much
less longer. If she didn't go talk to Cyradis soon, it was probably
going to be worse than if she just showed up and
had a conversation now.
She took a quick bath, combed through the tangle of her hair and
pinned it up, and shrugged on a soft knit top and a long skirt. Comfortable
clothes, nothing sexy or provocative. She wanted to look casual and relaxed,
not like too much of a reminder of what Cyradis had caught them at.
Now, where to best meet Cyradis? The office, the weyr, somewhere more
neutral than either? She had Riyanth ask Panitath where would be best.
}: At the bathing pools:{ came the reply from Panitath. }:Mine is
scrubbing me... very hard.:{
}:My rider is looking to talk to yours. She does not want to but she
thinks she needs to,:{ Riyanth relayed, puzzled. The gold dragon
didn't understand why her rider was feeling such mixed responses about
talking to Cyradis.
}:Will your rider see her?:{
Cyradis took a deep breath and blew it out slowly. Then she lifted a
dripping hand and shoved the wide brimmed hat she wore firmly down on
her head. She really had no choice. Her job came before her personal
feelings on the matter. **send her down.**
Riyanth gave Kapera the assent from Panitath.
Kapera walked down to the bathing area for the dragons and looked for
Cyradis. When she saw the older goldrider, she headed over and waved
hesitantly.
"Kapera," Cyradis nodded.
"Cyradis." Now that it was time to talk, her throat closed up and
forming words became hard.
"I, uh... D'hol. You still...care for him?" she said.
Cyradis tilted her head to the side while still scrubbing for a moment
and then stopped. "Would it have mattered if I did?"
"You didn't seem to mind the flight, so I'm wondering what's
different," she said.
"Well you hit the nail on the head," she said. "it wasn't a flight.
There is a difference and you know there is. We were all taught about
that when we were Weyrlings."
This was no time to tell the other woman about her own experiences or
was it? "I wouldn't expect you to try and sleep with K'deren. He and I
are committed to one another. I would imagine you might want to
respect that."
Kapera was briefly confused as to why Cyradis brought up K'deren.
Wasn't the problem that Cyradis was jealous over D'hol, even though
she had to claim to him anymore?
"D'hol and I had a few close to intimate moments when Riyanth was
brooding the eggs, but he never made overt moves, so nothing happened.
This time, D'hol kissed me first and initiated," Kapera said. "I
assumed he was acting within his own rules about commitment in his
relationships."
"After all this time you know next to nothing about men Kapera." She
sighed and leaned against a gold leg. "You're young and beautiful and
can likely have any man you want. Your gold gives you added glamor and
so... all the bronzeriders want and need to get close to you. But you
didn't think about anything else at that moment other than your own
pleasure."
She shook her head. There was a great deal of truth in the rumors that
had surrounded the decisions of this woman in the past. Even though
she'd made such progress. "That man, can mark up his bedposts with at
least nine goldriders that I know about. He's good at it. And yes, at
one time I was in love with him. So, I was shocked and hurt. He'd told
me recently that he still cared about me and we were becoming close
again." She could feel heat rising as her emotions began to emerge.
"But not now, and not with Jeyme in the picture. You do realize what
you've done to _her_ don't you?"
"If you're not currently involved with or in love with D'hol, then why
do you feel hurt if he sleeps with someone else? Isn't that his
business, just like you and K'deren are your business and not his?"
she asked.
Kapera thought about the rest of what Cyradis was saying, and felt a
glimmer of irritation flicker. She thought about nothing but her own
pleasure? It was sensible to be concerned with one's own happiness and
satisfaction. She could let that one roll off her back.
But the last part confused her the most. She was responsible for
hurting Jeyme? By sleeping with D'hol when he'd started it? It felt
like one-sided blame. Where was any acknowledgement of _D'hol's_
culpability in this?
"So, D'hol kisses me, and I have to think about if he's involved with
Jeyme and if it's okay to sleep with him, instead of assuming he knows
his own business? Is the Weyr just like the Hold and women are
supposed to be held to different standards then men?" Kapera said
bitterly.
"I was Hall raised," Cyradis spat back at her. "Jeyme was Hold raised.
I personally blame both of you for making a mess in _My Weyr_. You
claim Jeyme is your friend? Because we both know how she feels about
D'hol. You're making excuses for your behavior Kapera. And you know
what excuses are? The skin of a reason stuffed with a lie."
She threw her sponge into the bucket and beaconed to a candidate to
finish washing and oiling Panitath.
"Whatever you want to tell yourself you just go ahead but you've
broken trust. D'hol knew full well what he was doing and I'm sure you
had a great time. I did when I was with him. Now you just have to
live with the consequences. Stupid stupid."
Cyradis turned away and began walking toward her own weyr. "I don't
want to see you or hear from you for two days, and if we lose Jeyme
over this you better believe you and D'hol are to blame."
Kapera stood silently and watched the Senior Weyrwoman leave, fuming
inside. Cyradis' words felt like an undeserved slap across the face.
So she was saying that she thought D'hol knew what he was doing? Then
why was Cyradis accusing _her_ of causing a mess when D'hol was the
ones stepping outside his own relationship?
Well, Cyradis didn't want to see her for two days. Fine. She'd just do
her work elsewhere and hope that everyone became more sensible after a
few days had passed.
