Cyradis turned a glow after a minute of full dark in her hiding place.
She dashed the tears from her eyes, covered her eyes, and leaned
against a pile of linens.
**Why am I so upset,** she asked herself. "I'm in love with K'deren,
not D'hol." Besides, he had a weyrmate and so did she. If anyone
should be upset it would be Jeyme. If anything had concerned her over
the last few months it had been how Jeyme felt about her continuing
need to be involved with her daughter's father.
Sure, she cared about him, it wasn't like a person can turn off
feelings for another person like turning a glow, or pulling a light
chain. But this feeling in her gut was more, different and she
couldn't really explain it.
Then it hit her, the similarities were overwhelming.
~~~begin flashback~~~
N'lon had come to her office for a chat, but things had escalated and
now they were on the couch, making out with passionate intensity.
Halendra wrapped her arms around N'lon and ground down against his
lap, enjoying the reactions she could provoke out of the bronzerider.
The bronzerider groaned,his kisses becoming feverish as he stripped
Halendra's top off with relish. Callused hands sought out the young,
firm flesh and stroked, teased, and caressed. "So soft and sweet," His
voice was husky with need as he tipped her backwards to lay on her
back. "Perfect."
Halendra arched up against him. "So claim me already," she purred at
the bronzerider.
It wasn't difficult to strip the young woman naked, her clothing had
been half off shortly after her arrival. Nor was it difficult to push
down his already unlaced trousers. And when he came to her she was
more than ready. His lips sealed to her own and his hands clasped her
hips as he did exactly what she asked him to.
Halendra groaned as their bodies joined. She slid her tongue between
his lips and reached her hands up to strike them across his rear end.
Cyradis didn't do more than tap on the door. She was fuming inside
knowing the younger woman was just using her office to get under her
skin by summoning her the way she had. "What can I do for you
Weyrw...."
Her heart dropped to her stomach. There was no interpretation that
could explain what was going on any way other than what it was. She
strode forward and grabbed Halendra by the hair pulling her off N'lon
and tossing her to the floor. "You bitch," she screamed.
The door opened and Halendra smiled to herself, knowing what Cyradis
would see - her precious bronzerider wrapped around another woman,
very literally. She was expecting Cyradis to fume and storm out, or
break into tears and ask why, or maybe yell a bit. She was absolutely
unprepared to be physically touched and have her and N'lon pulled
apart.
"Excuse me?" she snarled from the floor, glaring up at Cyradis. Her
hair was tangled and her face flushed with the passion the other woman
had gotten in the middle of. "You can't manhandle a Weyrwoman like
that."
The next sound that came out of Cyradis' was more animal than anything
else. She wanted to break Halendra's perfect face with a primal rage
she'd never experienced before in her life. The scream that tore from
her throat was matched by the rage from Panitath on the heights.
Cyradis flung herself on top of Halendra and began swinging wildly,
landing punches until suddenly rock hard arms grabbed her from behind
and pulled her off. She kicked at both of them still screaming until
she too was on the floor but with N'lon between her and the other
woman.
She looked up at him with a sneer. "You sharding asshole," she yelled
at his obvious state. With his trousers wide open he was still flying
his erection, though it was notably deflating.
Yedrith was looking at Panitath and projecting a sense of calm. The
senior gold didn't know why their riders were fighting but she didn't
want the bronzes to get stirred up.
Halendra mentally reached out to her lifemate Yedrith for comfort.
With her gold's strength, she felt herself go glacially calm, in
opposition to the rage she could see growing in Cyradis. Things were
going exactly as she'd hoped. She would be calm and mature, and the
other woman would come across as an unhinged screamer. It would prove
that Yedrith was right to have risen first.
"You can't assault us, Cyradis," Halendra repeated.
"Have you gone absolutely insane?" N'lon snarled at Cyradis, both in
frustration at his stifled ardor and in embarrassment at her behavior.
"How dare you lay one hand on Halendra, Cyradis? You, of all people
should know better and you're acting no better than some hold-bred
brat!" He bent to help Halendra up off of the floor, brushing her off
and then fastening his pants. He strode over to where Cyradis sat
sprawled and spat down at her."If I want to have every single
goldrider in this Weyr in my bed, or on a couch or over a table or
over a desk, it's not any of your fecking business, you hypocritical
little bitch!"
"Us?" She stared at Halendra for a moment before N'lon spat his poison
at her. She didn't miss the triumphant sparkle in Halendra's eyes as
she started to wilt. She rose to her feet on her own without speaking
for a moment. She knew her skin was likely mottled with her emotions
but she was satisfied to see Halendra's lip swelling and her eye
reddened. Hopefully it would go black.
Tears stood in her eyes but she refused to weep in front of the pair
of them. To think she'd chosen him over a man who had wanted only her.
"Of course _Weyrleader_," she said with as much sneer as she could
summon. "Shall I just go back to our weyr now and wait for you to
honor me with your cock?"
"Yes, you can't hit _us_," Halendra said, stressing the term possessively.
"Or have you forgotten that dragonriders don't fight, in your
regressing to the conduct of a weyrling?"
N'lon sneered, all of the bitterness he had felt after he had heard
about her own affair exploding into cutting words. "At least I can
feel all of Halendra when I bed her. You stopped being fresh and firm
ten turns ago. So go back to our weyr and wait for me. Maybe then
after you stop acting like a child, we can talk about this."
Halendra smirked, content to let N'lon get in the last few digs.
~~End Flashback~~
Cyradis pulled in a deep shuddering breath. This wasn't near as bad as
that had been. Yet her reaction just now had been almost more than she
could take. She needed to get away like she had done before, just so
she could settle down and deal with her reaction before she had to
deal with anyone else. Kapera was in no way an enemy. They were
friends for Faranth's sake.
And D'hol wasn't her weyrmate but he was... he was... "an ass." All
the equanimity and friendship they'd been building slowly over the
last months was gone. "Bronzerider to the core," she thought
bitterly.
She wanted to run to K'deren but she needed to get herself under
control first. A chirp and whirling eyes told her Shadow was there and
she reached out to him to see if there were anyone in the corridor
outside. Once she was assured no one would see her, she took another
deep breath and opened the door.
She walked to her weyr and called her lifemate. Panitath floated down
from the heights and waited patiently for her straps. Cyradis grabbed
her flight jacket and muttered to herself. "I need a drink."
A few moments later, they were in the air and /between/. Heartbeats
later they appeared over Vintner Hall. She would find some very good
drinks here, along with friends and extended family.
