The words on the hides were starting to blur together, something that
was becoming more and more common as he passed each Turn. D'hol sat
back and rolled his head on his shoulders, then ran a hand through his
hair. He had to find a Wingthird to handle the more detailed hide
work; he didn't ask K'deren, the man was doing enough as it was, so it
fell to him.

And shards, did he hate it sometimes. He felt a pop at the neck a sighed.

Kapera strode down the hallways, carrying a hide with the Healers'
signature, restoring S'kreli to full flying duty. The greenrider had
been part of D'hol's wing before being scored three months ago. He'd
spent two sevendays with the Healers, then been flying with her wing
on light duty. Though he kept protesting he wasn't up to the rigors of
a full flying wing yet, his performance in drills had been solid
enough that she was suspicious that was a lie. So she'd had the
Healers check him out, "to make sure that he wasn't being injured by
drilling". And sure enough, they'd said he was faking.

She was happy to wash her hands of the greenrider and let D'hol's
famous discipline get him back into flying shape. good riddance, as
far as the goldrider was concerned.

Once she arrived at his office, she rapped twice on the door.

"Come in." D'hol turned his head again, listening to another
satisfying pop before looking up. "Ah, Kapera." He offered a tired
half-smile. "How can I help you?"

"I come bearing hidework to give you a greenrider back, if you want
him," Kapera said flippantly. "Looks like you're in the middle of a
pile of trouble."

"S'kreli?" D'hol rubbed his temple. "If I could send him back to the
Weyrling barracks I would. He's more concerned with bedding everyone
in the wing than actually concentrating." He exhaled and waved her in.
"Well, he'll have to adapt to my wing again."

She shut the door behind herself and set the hide on his desk. With a
casual shrug, she said, "Just discipline him. Work him till he drops
and whip him into shape. You're famous for it."

One brow arched. "Am I now?" His smirk grew as he rolled his shoulders
and his hand found the back of his neck. "Well, it's worked in the
past for him. And I'll have to push him. If I sent K'deren, all
S'kreli would do is drool."

"You don't think he'd drool over you?" she asked playfully. Daringly
she stepped around his desk and set a cool hand against his neck.

"That looks sore. Need a hand?"

"Not openly. I think he knows better." He closed his eyes at the cool
touch. "It is sore." He opened one eye and gestured at his neck. "Have
at it. I'd thank you for it."

Kapera was all too happy to start massaging D'hol's neck. She had been
intimidated by him when she'd first arrived at Dolphin Cove, but his
careful attentiveness during Riyanth's clutch with Yumath had shown
her that he was nicer than expected, given his reputation.

"Don't you know what a forbidding reputation you have? Some weyrlings
beg not to be put in your wing because they're afraid you'll break
them," she teased.

A low groan emerged as D'hol leaned his head forward, allowing her
better access. The cool hands felt blissful on the knots of tension
his held in his neck and shoulders. "I know and I would if they don't
keep up and do what they need to." His voice became a murmur as he
began to relax more. "But good Weyrlingmasters, so don't usually have
to... Down a bit."

"It's a good team here," she agreed, thinking of other weyrlingmaster
staffs she had trusted less.

She complied with the instruction, moving her fingers from the higher
point of the neck to the lower part and out the the shoulders as well.

"These knots are very hard. You should have gotten them checked out
sooner," she suggested.

"Been busy." She hit a particularly tender area and he leaned back
into the touch, his head lightly resting against her chest as she
worked. "You have talented hands."

"You pick up some things when socializing with the massage healers,"
she said absently as she kept working.

"So when's the last time you relaxed? Did something fun or wild that
wasn't work?"

"You have all day to stop that." He didn't want to her stop; his
shoulders were feeling loose and more at ease. Quite simply, the woman
knew was she was doing. His head leaned back further, pillowed against
her as he became more relaxed. "Don't remember." His facial features
were at ease, the tension around the eyes discarded. He gave a soft
chuckle as a smile pulled up his lips. "Wild seems to escape me these
days." He opened one eye to look up at her. "Aren't you supposed to be
the expert with wild and fun?"

"Being responsible and stuffy might be good for living long, but not
good for living well," she said, noticing he was getting comfortable.

"I had a reputation for it once upon a time," Kapera agreed. "But
since coming to Dolphin Cove, I've been very respectable and
responsible. I haven't skipped wing drills to have a fling with
someone wildly inappropriate once."

That brought a soft, deep laugh. "How can you bear all the
respectfulness and behaving?" He was comfortable with her, especially
after Yumath had won her flight and they'd spent enough time together.
"Sounds like you're trying too hard to be responsible and have kept
yourself penned up."

"Stay up drinking and skipping wing drills, the joys of being a young
goldrider who thought no one could say no to her whims. That's a level
of misbehavior it's probably good to have grown past. I mean, would
you have tolerated it in your wing?"

His words rang true. She had been behaving very responsivle and it
chafed. "Well, I was irresponsible and had an inappropriate liaison
one time," she confessed.

His bows shot up and he flashed a grin. "I had a few turns of
inappropriate liaisons." There was a spark of youthful mischief in his
eyes at the thought. "For the most part, they were fun."

"Who was the most inappropriate person you've ever slept with? I'll
share if you'll share," she teased, taking a brief break from the
massaging motion to teasingly run her fingers down his arms.

The teasing touch caused a reaction that he couldn't hide. Goose flesh
rose and a heat emerged in his expression even as he grinned.
"Sleeping with a weyrmated weyrling master...while I was a weyrling."
He paused and his smile grew. "I tried working my way through all of
the goldriders too."

"You cad, how _did_ you get away with that one?" Kapera asked,
scandalized and impressed at the same time.

"I slept with Lord Corowal at a Hatching. I'm not sure if that's more
or less impressive."

"Pure charm." He lifted his hand to rest on her arm and rubbed it
slowly. "It's impressive. I do have to admit that." His fingers
trailed along her skin. "So you miss it?"

"Being young and irresponsible? Spending nights doing whatever I want
and not thinking about work? Yes," she said, leaning her head down to
look at him better. Her hair slipped from behind her shoulders to fall
in a curtain around her head and his.

He turned his head to look at her and her cheek was close to his lips.
Arousal shot through him at the scent of her, something he'd enjoyed
during and shortly after their shared flight. The thought of Jeyme
didn't even enter his head as he spoke huskily. "So, be irresponsible
when you can afford to be."

She lifted her fingers off one arm and traced just one across his
cheek, then brushed his lip. "Like this?"

**Faranth flame it, I want her.** His eyes immediately flamed and he
lifted his hand to cup the back of her head and pull her close for a
searing kiss.
