Description: A'vel tries to act on the older dragonriders' advice.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 16 of Turn 8
K'zel eyed his weyr critically. It pleased him to see everything neat
and orderly, nothing was out of its place. This wasn't the first time
that he'd been asked by one of the Weyrling staff to meet with a young
rider who was in need of a little sexual education before being
plunged head first into a mating flight.
}:Your Weyrling is here.:{ Caprith passed along to him from where he
lounged on his ledge, having made room for Tsogath to land.
Smiling, K'zel made sure a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses were
on hand. Sometimes virgins needed a little loosening up. **No pun
intended.** He giggled behind his hand.
Tsogath settled on the weyrledge to let his rider off. She reached out
her nose and crooned a greeting at Caprith. }:Hello,:{ she said.
A'vel slid down off Tsogath and hesitated. He smiled at the unfamiliar
blue and bowed a little, using manners as his excuse. He was scared
about this, and uncomfortable. The weyrlingmasters told him he needed
to do this, but he didn't _want_ to... This felt so impersonal. Sex
should be with someone you loved, not an arranged stranger.
But he didn't love anyone. Girl or boy. And they said he needed this...
He swallowed nervously and said, "Hello?"
"Hey there," K'zel motioned for the young greenrider to come in. He
studied A'vel, his eyes taking in the untameable blonde hair, and then
settling on his big blue eyes. **He's so young and cute!**
}:Just your type then.:{ Caprith chortled.
"It's nice to meet you."
"It's good to meet you too," A'vel said, extending his hand to shake
out of reflex. His Harper training made him sound polite and mannered
even as he was still flinching inside.
"I hope I'm not a bother on your plans."
"Not at all, have a seat." He he gestured to the couch as he turned
toward the bottle of wine. "Care for something to drink?"
"Uhh..." A'vel hesitated, not really sure what he wanted. Other than
to run away, But having a drink would be good, right? Relaxing?
"Sure."
"You nervous?" K'zel asked as he handed a glass to A'vel.
Was it that obvious? The weyrling flushed crimson. "I am. It just
seems so...impersonal."
"It is a little," K'zel admitted, sitting on the other end of the
couch. "That doesn't mean that it can't be fun. I was nervous like you
too. I was holdbred and a virgin during Weyrlinghood so the
Weyrlingmaster introduced me to an experienced bluerider."
A'vel took a sip from the glass and settled down, keeping some space
between them. "Where were you from?"
"A little minor holding called Red Rush." K'zel told him, taking a sip
of his own wine. "It was a lucky thing that I joined the harpers, it
was at the crafthall that I was Searched."
A'vel tried to place the other man's face and see if he knew him. "I
miss the Hall sometimes, but not my father," he confessed.
K'zel tilted his head, "You weren't close then?"
"I was the son of _Master_ Faveron. The disappointing
adequately-talented son," he clarified, the old hurt present in his
tone. Complaining about his father was something he knew how to do,
something to take his mind off his nebulous fears.
"You should have seen his face when I Impressed a green. I know I'm
not welcome back, and I won't miss him. But sometimes I miss the Hall
itself."
"At least you can visit." K'zel pointed out. He wasn't surprised that
A'vel's father did not approve, it was a common enough story among
holdbred blue and green riders.
"That's true. Once I'm graduated, I want to see my mom. Do you ever go
back?" he asked.
K'zel shook his head, "No, I don't, not unless it is tied to
transportation duty."
"Oh." A'vel shifted his weight on the couch and took another drink.
Now the glass was empty and he hadn't realized it.
}:You should mate with him,:{ Tsogath said suddenly.
**But I don't _want_ to mate. I'm afraid to. I don't like - I don't
want to...** A'vel's protest was half-words half-emotion, and all
worrying.
}:I have seen other greens fly to mate. It looks fun.:{ The green
turned her mind to the other dragon on the ledge. }:Is mating really
that fun?:{
}:Mating is very fun, especially if you're flown by the right dragon.:{
Caprith informed Tsogath silkily.
"Would you care for more wine?" K'zel asked, trying to gauge A'vel's nerves
now.
"Yes," the weyrling blurted. Maybe if he drank enough he could just calm
down...
K'zel leaned over with the bottle and refilled the
greenrider's glass. "It really is best this way," K'zel spoke, "to
face it before you're in the throws of a mating flight where you'll
have no control over who ends up catching you."
"Is it really so different in one?"
"It is," K'zel confirmed. "With the urgency of the dragons everything
happens in a rush, there's not a lot of time for... gentleness."
}:You should do what he says, he is smart,:{ Tsogath chimed in.
"Oh. Okay." A'vel took another sip from his glass. "I'll trust you,
then. I'm - I'm sorry I'm nervous."
K'zel slid closer to A'vel on the couch and gingerly plucked the half
finished glass of wine from his hand, "You ever kissed another man?"
